I have a question I'm hoping you all can answer. I have registered a domain name for a niche directory that includes the three major keywords I'm targeting in the order they're most likely to be used. I was pretty happy to get it. I'm concerned though that the total length of the domain name is 25 characters, not counting the .com at the end. Is that too many? Should I try for a less optimal name that loses one or more of the keywords? I really doubt many people are going to be typing the domain name as it will must likely be showing up in SERP or backlinks, so maybe it's not a concern. Would appreciate some opinions!
Well, it depends. If it is made up of dictionary words and is meaningful then it would be nice even for typed-ins. But if it is made up of characters bunched together then it would be helpful if it is short. For instance, if your domain name is like vietnamesehomecooking.com would sound meaningful as it is easy for people to remember. But if it is jsfgstwtuygfqqttgwytwgb.com then it would defeat the purpose. I think it is best when obtaining a domain name to cater for both type-ins and search engine entries. Personally, a meaningful name is something I would remember better than a bunch of alphabets.
Of course the shorter the better, but if you are targeting it for SEO, then it should be ok, since you mentioned most likely people won't type it in.
Thanks, looks like I'll go for the big long domain name with the keywords intact. Appreciate the input!
