Don't forget that for every site that is dropping on the SERPS, there is another going up. I understand however that this is something more drastic then a simple drop in 3 to 5 positions. Are the results of these sites that have been dropped showing in the supplemental results?
Have you thought about the possibility that the drop is caused by a new dataset is rolled out? It looks like it could be related to that from what I can see.
I have been hit hard by this latest index reshuffle. One of my sites seemed to have lost around 90% of it's Google traffic (which is a lot considering the site was getting over 6,000 visitors a day through Google) and my pages are now no where to be seen in the SERPs. It appears that it happened around 10pm Friday night. There was no significant changes from my end the site has been essentially the same setup for the last 6 - 9 months. It's a real kick to the balls but at the same time it sort of just reaffirms my resolve to be not so dependent on Google as a reliable source of traffic, because they are so damn flippant. But I will be interested to see what comes of this and what people read into on this one...
My 2 sites also drop from no where averaging 5000 unique a day both of them but now traffic from google are complete loose. This is the second time that happened to me with same site. The last happened it took a month before they came back...
Most of my sites are still ranking okay. They are dropping here and there but nothing too dramatic. But who knows for next week eh?
Ouch. I'm sorry to hear that. This has happened to me repetitively, and in all but one case Google fixed it in about thirty days. Quality control is almost non-existent in Google's search department. They just don't care.
Well 48 hours later still not love from Google - I really hope your prediction of 30 days is the case. I mean I don't mind that much if it is temporary - but it would be killer if this was long term. As for Google's not caring - well I can't expect them to stand up to attention because lil old me has lost 6,000 uniques/day from their rankings. If this reshuffle wasn't just isolated to my site I'm sure there are a lot of other people out there that were hit a whole lot harder than me. Though it is semi annoying the fact that we all seem to spend so much time on SEO which is essentially just doing basic things that lead to improved results in Google SERPs and to apply essentially the exact same techniques across all your sites and then just at random one site bombs out of the index... then you rack you brain trying frantically to isolate the key variable that is causing this drop and for the life of you, you can't find it - and you have to resign to the fact that Google is just one total system of crazy. In the end the only factor that I could think of that was featuring on this site that was absent from all my other sites was the fact that Kontera was installed on this site... But I'm quietly confident that couldn't be the reason - though no doubt Google have done crazier things. I guess I will have to take solace in the fact that the longer they penalise/derank me the the less they earn due to the fact they have smashed my AdSense earnings in the process. That will teach em for deranking me!
But when they derank you someone else's rank gets promoted and they start earning from Adsense instead. IT
That's very normal. Just wait for your site to come back. But if your site is gone for a week. I think you need to do something on your optimization maybe other sites has already taken your place.
That of course is based on the assumption that site replacing my site not only has AdSense but also gets the same CTR rate as my site - which I'm quietly confident my replacement doesn't... . Trust me, Google want me ranking well. LOL - if they were really smart they'd place me number one for all the search terms in my industry - because I imagine I have one of the best CTRs in my industry therefore that would make them the most money! And my content is pretty good for the industry as well so the conversions on the click throughs would be reasonably good as well. Ahh... if only Google was willing to scheme with us publishers for their and our own benefits - wouldn't that be the life.
Thats pretty logical thinking there. Just so you know, Google has restored most of my Search Engine results IT
My site has been on the downhill since Friday... I used to get 14,000 visitors a day... now i am at 2,200 visitors... WTF
They are dealing with billions of pages with billions of backlinks. One small page in the ocean is not too important to them I bet.
