bump infractions - please explain

Okay, so it seems as though many people are getting inractions which later cause them to get banned for "bumping the thread." The faq states this

    • Don't "bump" threads and don't post duplicate threads.

What does it actually mean. It seems that there are at least 10 threads started each day for infractions given because of thread bumping. What counts as a "bump" and is it different by all moderators? Like maybe you guys can give some examples or something.

    Nick

P.S. I didn't get an infraction for bumping, at least not recently, so this isn't about my infraction, just about the whole thing in general.

Heh - someone got banned today becuase they replied in my topic saying they won the acution and i didn't specify. It was counted as a bump.
Although i did state that it had finished.

Bumping is just replying with some thing useless to get it back up the top.

    Indeed you are correct.

It is impossible to specify all type posts constituting bumps. Here are a few.

    • Post after post offering count down until auction ends. Once ending time is posted there is no need to restate.
    • Still taking orders or still available type posts
    • Posts restating highest bid received
    • Sent you a PM type post or details sent post.
    • Thank you posts
    • Bump (Yes you see such posts.)

Whoa big list. Im gonna have to ask you not to look at any of my previous threads please.

Also, what about posts that like change the price for example, say how many orders are left (i.e. You are selling an ebook and the first 10 people get it at half price. Can you post "Only 7 eBooks left at half price) also orders that add a download link to the thread. I don't think that counts as useless, but just want to make sure.

There's another one that to me qualifies as a bump and is very annoying.

It is directory owners who come up with half a dozen or so "specials" and dribble them out one at a time onto DP every few days. It's just another scheme to keep a topic high up on the thread lists. In other words, a "bump".

I don't have directories, so i don't have to worry about that. Thank you guys, this was very informative. To me and hopefully to many other beginner members on DP.

Wait so does this mean that bumps can only be done in the BST section since in other threads, there would be no point to bump it considering you don't make any sales?

Bumping isn't allowed anywhere.... you should check the infractions sticky above, I've been posting about the whole bumping/duplicate thread thing in there so there are some answers as well as the guidelines.

I also don't think it does count as a bump. I think it's an update of the sales thread.

Unless the original post is still editable ( up to 8 hours )

I would think if the original post was still editable, then no you couldn't "bump" the thread with a lower BIN...
