Adsense on page boost Google Rankings

I know most of you are going to say, "No, placing adsense ads on your site will not boost rankings" And, i tend to agree with you. It would be somewhat unethical and Google has a good track record for being forthright.

However, it would benefit google to display sites with their ads on the site - this would boost their ad revenues. So you can see that Google would have a motive to do this.

Also, would this affect you negatively on the other SE's. Yahoo and MSN surely dont want you sending more money to Google. So they have a motive to handicap sites with adsense.

What do you guys think about this?

I think it is the case.
I have heard many stories about traffic from google dropping when someone switched from adsense to ypn.

Unethical? Any company with profits of more than $5m are going to be doing unethical things...:D

Using Adsense has no impact what-so-ever on organic placement.

Adsense has absolutely nothing to do with your SERPS.

Source: I switched about 35 sites from Adsense to YPN months ago and saw no negative impact. I also have sites that run a combination of both, and there is absolutely nothing to this rumor.

While it might make sense that google would want to give higher placement to sites running adsense, it would do great damage to their reputation for their claims of not doing so. They are a public company and the founders would be risking billions of dollars. Google has been cracking down on sites that are auto-generated made-for-adsense sites even though they would, on paper, make a more money by giving them a high placement.

Google is very concerned about spammy sites running adsense or such because they will lose their end user with poor quality search results. Some argue google has already lost it, but you must remember that Yahoo and MSN don't get targeted like google because they aren't #1. The #1 is always the target.

Thanks mjewel for sharing your experience with this...
Does anyone have any experience that might prove the contrary; that adsense does promote rankings?

300 days later and it still doesn't help anything. Don't be stupid;)

Having AdSense on a page does not impact organic results...at all.

14 months after i originally asked this question, I'd have to say that i agree: the presence of adsense does not impact your rankings.

However, it seems it may help your site get indexed more frequently. The reason i say this is that the adsense spider also provides indexing to the regular search spider.

Anyone have thoughts on this? Maybe ill have answered this question in another 14 months ;)

That is true, they are two different bots. However, if the adsense bot has already visited a page, it makes no sense for the "search bot" to visit also. So, the adsense bot provides info the the search bot to prevent redundant work for the two bots.

google has an interest in adsense sites, since its THEIR money.

There are even tricks to FORCE spidering of your adsense site..since Ads which do NOT show are lost money for google. The end to spider to find out the content and serve the right ads.

However, the "traffic" you mention might rather be the spiders, and not real humans. There is no explanation why adsense would attract human traffic. Spiders, yes.
