Why do people sell a site that is making money ?

    Hello all,

I was looking at the buy sell section and I don't get why would people sell their adsense site which could make them long term profit

    For example http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=290076

This is started bid at 100 but it's making 5 dollar a day adsense as claimed by the seller. So that makes 150 per month ?

Is this because income on this kind of proxy site , probably decreases over time?

    Thanks all for your opinion
    Joshua

People generally sell for between 12 and 24 months revenue in order to trade long term profits for cash to reinvest now. Proxy sites get shut down often so that may explain the low price.

People sell because they need money urgently.

Well, in depends on the terms of the auction, usually sellers have a reserve price which may be public or private. Any offers under that reserve price, they reserve the rights not to sell the site. Most are expecting to receive Buy-It-Now (BIN) prices.

Other reasons may be that the income level is not sustainable and the seller wants to cash out before it breaks down. Or the income level is fake as they omit to mention the cost of maintaining the site.

Or the seller wants to realize their investment fast or maybe needing the money for one reason or the other.

It is hard to say. It can be anything.

Proxy tends to be short-lived. After a while if it gets banned by major ISPs or schools, they will outlive their benefits and shut down. Also it is possible that the proxy sites may incur a lot of cost due to bandwidth or may be at risk of shut down since a number of web hosts do not permit Proxy sites to be run on their network.

People usually sell them when they see that the revue/ranking is declining , lets be honest we wouldn't give away our cash cow for the price of one months supposed revenue. Be careful out their ;)

People sell to a amont that includes their future returns as well.

This will help them get future cash..which can invested else where for higher returns...

Also people have more than one business so they can sell of one successful business to make another another even more successful..

Proxy sites are special. You cannot trust or even count on that there will be future revenue from them even if they make $5 a day now. Tomorrow the income can be gone.

Wanna buy all of my sites?

2 years revenue is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much.

    Generally, is 10X monthly revenue.

    People sell because:
    1) need money fast
    2) don't have time to maintain site
    3) not making enough money for the amount of work
    4) got banned from their main source of internet income
    5) is using up all of their hosting resources (bandwidth/space)

Some people just develop sites..keep them around for couple months, grow traffic and income and then sell it and hope to make more money.

Would you sell your site that makes $50,000 per month for $500,000? I don't think so.

    guk6kk, nice point:) hehe

Established sites in great niche, several years old, with probably diversified income of several thousands per month and more can go easily for 24x revenue.

now first your saying you will not sell a money making site.

in your second line you say you will sell if you need money fast.

Thats the main reason, need money fast

Well everyone forgets one thing every time from what i see, sites which make money also need money to be put in, i have seen in the stats of so many sites for sale but dont mention it as it wring people who buy sites should realise that if the main source fo traffic is not organic the orignal owner must have out resources and money too get the revenue generated.

For expalme I put in $100 in google adwords for one of my sites and i make $90 out of it ..many would think of it as a loss..rest put up their site for sale with proof showing that it made $90 in the specififed time and according to standards he gets upto 10x revenue that is $900 so it that a loss? ;)

I feel sorry for so many people who fall for this bait..hope no1 is fooled around here althigh i see it happening so oftetn with fake stats( just go to the sites for sale section..if a seller is not publicly posting stats your siren should go off..akthough its nto always the case but from what i have seen its 90% time true )

    Regards

Look at it from the reverse angle. The only site that will be marketable is "a site that is making money". Who would buy a website (or a business) that was not making money?
