Computer display problem ... can anyone assist?

    Hi,

I've been using a laptop to access the internet and I can't reset the screen
resolution on it. Right now it's at 640 X 480 pixels and after every time I set it for a larger resolution it automatically reverts back to 640 X 480. It won't let me change it to a higher resolution. So now websites appear too big for the screen and there is usually a horizontal scroll bar when I visit sites and the color is all off too.

Has anyone had this problem before and, if they have, what did you do to
    fix it? Thank you.

Usually when something like that happens with any computer the correct driver is missing or corrupt and you are using the "default vga" driver. It can also be a bad vid card or vid memory.

The driver is the easy thing to check. If running xp windows can even search for a new or updated driver. If you help with how, post back.

Under "Monitor", "Properties"...It tells me "no driver files are required...." and "This device is working properly." ..it's a laptop...so maybe they're different???

tried multiple things...still won't revert to different screen resolution....

It's not the monitor properties, it's the Display adapter properties . . .

if you go to start/ run/ type in devmgmt.msc go to display adapters and uninstall whatever is there. reboot and it will prompt you to reinstall it. this will usually work. upon reinstalling if it says no drivers found just do a search on google or go to the manufacter wensite to get the drivers.

like mine says radeon x1900 series and a second one that says radeon x1900 series secondary, if there are 2 remove them both. if you have further issues let me know.
