ok people i m a regular net surfer since i was 13 years old, i have made couple of sites and i also have some basic knowledge about IT industry. Now i have this idea which i think should work gr8, i can develop it, i know it's unique and is of kind to get easy attention, i have never seen such a site ever in the world which is even similar to my idea, but problem is i am still an Engineering student , it's hard for me to pay for my college leave aside developing a project. what should i do now??????? let the idea go away from my mind?????????? and forget about it, or should i start it with my limited budget and see if anyone is interested in funding it????????
It seems as though this project would take some funding. I would suggest you start. I also suggest not disclosing the idea at this point either, because if someone steals it you have no chance of developping it agains someone who has more capital. I think if you get started it's a head start at least and you can then use that to showcase to others who may be willing to fund it. Skinny
by funding i don't mean millions of $$$$ but u see even a small amout is huge for a college student that's what i fear what if google or yahoo steals it
If you want, you can run the idea past me and Ill tell you what I think and answer any specific questions you might have (how to get funding, how to market, etc). Ive done consulting for a number of websites since 1999. If not, the biggest piece of advice I can offer is RESEARCH AND PLAN! Best of luck.
You don't have to tell me what it is but how much do you really need and what kind of help do you need. I am a full time webmaster and have a lot of time on my hands. What genre is your website?
Here's something I wrote relating to your question: Unique Ideas Create a Road to Success I'd strongly suggest you read it, and go for it.
I strongly suggest you read the following article: http://www.paulgraham.com/bronze.html Note: Im not saying that any idea is bad, but the article brings up a lot of good points. Plus, its by Paul Graham a partner of Y Combinator.
oNCE I too think that i have a unique Idea, I have same feeling and condition as you, but Now I want to disclose it here: I thought directory should be blend with adword script. user pay per click that he receive from directory. if you too have that kind of idea, just share it with some highly proffesional software engineers, hopefully you will get some positive reply..
Where abouts are you from? If you are in the UK and under 25 years old you can probably apply to "The Princess Trust" (search Google) If you submit a form giving some ideas, but not completly telling them your plan they may accept and GIVE you the money and you NEVER have to pay them back. If your not from the Uk maybe your country has a similar organisation? And you could maybe try and get a partner but becareful with sharing your ideas in public and the people you do approach you need to TRUST them fully and i think there is some sort of contract you can get them to sign to ensure they don't copy your idea (Like what people fill in when they approach a big company with their ideas...).... Thanks.
It's the Prince's Trust, not the Princess. The age limit is 30, and they are far more inclined to give out loans than they are grants. In any case, it's not likely to be above £4000. It is worthwhile speaking to them even if you don't want a loan, because they give you lots of advice and help you with business plans and so on.
Never tell anyone your ideas, all the greedy webmasters will steal it faster than Robin Hood steals from the rich.
Examine your idea very closely. Make SURE it is profitable. Also keep in mind that just because an idea is unique, it wont necessarily be profitable.
Sure. I personally dont think a website HAS to be economically profitable. Ive lost quite a bit on some websites (on purpose), but the knowledge Ive gained from them is worth more than what I would have made if I had charged. Ill then take that knowledge and apply it in my future to become economically profitable.
Well, considering this is the business section I'm guessing he wants his site to generate revenue, and all I'm suggesting is that he closely examines his idea. It's painful to read about people who jump into a unique idea without taking time to figure out if it will actually make money.
True, but you can also gain more than knowledge and money from a website. For example, you can gain recognition. Im launching a free website shortly and I will lose money on it, but it should gain some recognition to me and my other website as being industry leaders. Ive used some of my non-income generating websites in job interviews before too, so thats another example of a way you can gain from a website. In all, I agree in that a website should be profitable, but that shouldnt always been the sole motivator. Some sites I loose a lot of because their are unmonetized and I just love to run them.
Yes - sometimes there's a very good reason an idea is unique. It's not necessarily that nobody has thought of it yet, maybe it's just a dumb idea. If you watch Dragon's Den on the BBC, you'll see they have loads of would-be entrepreneurs with original ideas, or ideas they think are original, that are totally unworkable. Sometimes the person just hasn't done enough research, and in fact they are reinventing the wheel. Other times it's just something that no sane person would buy.
