Hey, I would like to know what the differences there is between a dedicated server, and a virtual dedicated server. I would like all information there is to know, as need to get one or the other.

I know the main difference is the price, lol, I would just like to know the difference between the features/specifications.

    Thanks,
    BlueEew.

A Virtual private server is thought of a a apartment block. All diffrent rooms which are virtual private serervs. They all have they're all space. But all the people come through one door (traffic).

A Dedicated Server is a real computer which you have full control over it. You have full access to that whole machine.

A Virtual Dedicated Server like the same said, is 'Virtual' which is not real. The Term Virtual Dedicated Server is very subjective. For some web host, it means a bigger shared hosting account without shell access, just like you get less customers on the real dedicated server. While for some, it means Virtual Private Servers which are shared account but each account has full root access as if it is a full dedicated server but is not as you are sharing the real server with a few other customers.

If I had a Virtual Server, and I hosted one website, vBulletin forum, and one blog on would they run fast enough? Are the speeds the same as a dedicated server?

No, it would not have the same speed as a full server. A VPS is good if you need the control but do not need the full server.

Depending on the web host, they may pack 10 to 32 VPS on one server. Granted that they may put you on a 4x Duo Core CPUs + 16gb RAM server, it you cut it, it will still not match the full dedicated server.

If you never needed the full performance then it may seems fast enough.

Also remember that on a VPS, all the VPS would be sharing 1 single network card and thus 1 port.

Yes, typically for your needs, it should be fast enough assuming that the activity is relatively standard. If they are extremely business then a full dedicated server might be better.

However if you are not running an established web site then a shared account or a VPS may be a good start. This way you can cut down on your cost when you start off to minimize cost.
