Yup this is how my old british biology professor pronounced "niche" but I hear people pronouncing it as "n-ich" too......
nich, e is silent i guess. "nee" -- "ch" sort of a sound! but then my pronounciation is not that good! and forget about my spellings
Hmmm I think different countries pronounce it differently! A professor cannot be wrong neee-sh has a better ring to it
The sound byte here ( http://www.thefreedictionary.com/niche ) has it as nitch but lists both nitch and neesh as pronunciations.
Merriam Webster gives both pronunciations, ni-tch and neesh. http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/niche Personally, I pronounce it as neesh, but changes it to "nitch" if the other guy's pronouncing it as "nitch" - building a rapport, keeping him in his comfort zone, etc, etc
It is either neeeeesh or ni-tch. Not neeeeeee-tch... Though if all of us DP members decide, we will have a large enough number of people to get that variation in pronunciation into MW's dictionary
Perfect, we need a poll! We'll have so many variations because english isn't the first language for everyone
neesh is how canadians and brits usually say it neetch is how most americans say it you say tomato, I say tomahto.... vanessa.
Bizarrely the OED gives two pronounciations of the word niche - 'neesh' and 'nitch'. I guess it depends on how you feel that particularly day.
Ah so relieved, I thought the nich pronunciation was... ugly I love the way Canadians pronounce words I'm so bias lol
So, do you pronounce that last word (white, in red background) in your profile image the same way? Just kidding!
