i am creating a webpage (news archive) that contains short excerpts of news articles (so that i don't break the copyright law) and then have a link to the news agency website article page. this is purely for my visitors benefits and not for seo (ok, maybe a little since i will do onpage optimizing with all these rich content). but i am worried that this might reduce the PR for my site. from my little understanding of PR, by having this archive set up, it will increase PR of all my other webpages that are linked, but this increase is significantly lesser due to all these outbound links. so should i put up this page, since if i do not give links to these sites, theres no point in having a short excerpt and expect my visitors to do their own search. these are the methods of doing this that i thought of: 1) use a javascript link/robots.txt so that it is not accessible by crawlers 2) make it accessible by crawlers, have it linked in the main navigation (all webpages) 3) make it accessible by crawlers, have it linked in index page 4) make it accessible by crawlers, place huge amounts of internal links at the bottom can anyone advise me on this, maybe using combination of the above methods? i am looking for a balance between supplying what my visitors want and high PR values (equally impt!)
see...outgoing links decrease the PR its not totally correct. If your links goes to the valuable site or better to say if u have neighbor then that will also helpful to increase value. And google will think that you are related with good neighbor. So your site will get value by google. And your PR may increase that case. Thanks W.S
I don't think that this will increase your PR. Good neighbors can improve your ranking in search engines but not PR. Your PR will decrease (because you will have more outgoing links), but only little bit I suppose. If you want, you can "hide" the outgoing links for search engines with redirect . (link to some script on your server, which will redirect user to the desired website -> like /redirect.php?go=www.google.com and disallow this script in robots.txt)
linking to good websites can boost my position? wow, didn't read about that before. think i will try normal links and see how it goes. probably go for redirects eventually though, i see many sites doing that. thx for the advice
I really don't understand you guys. Sometimes it seems that you guys get lost for numbers. do you really care more about being on top of the results or having an higher PR? what's the point of having an higher pr if you don't rank well anyway?
linking to good pr site will never help u to get ranking if it is so than every one links good sites like google.com, alexa.com yahoo msn and get ranking lol if u have incoming links from good site than it will help u to get ranking.
You should only link to sites relevant in that niche. Im not just talking about the content of the page, but the links too.
Only good incoming links will help you to get good PR. Outgoing links only decreases PR of site and wont help you any how. Its the diff. matter you are doing this to help users of site.
correct me if i am wrong, isn't PR part of the algorithm to determine your ranking? i know there are many other factors, like on-page optimization, incoming links from relevant/authority sites, and etc. IMO, many are interested in PR because its the only factor that google shows you. sure, its not always inaccurate nor updated, but its better than spending time looking at where all your incoming links are from day in day out, which gonna take some time if your site is good (not mine though) PR takes like, few seconds to check, maybe thats why ppl look at them regularly.
If you want to sell links on your site, you should take care about your PR/GTPR and avoid outgoing links. But if you want to have a lot of visitors (=> and good rankings in SE), forget about PR - just provide useful content to you visitors, don't be afraid of linking to relevant websites.
