Hi everyone, The time has come for me to go dedicated. It was suggested by my current host as I now get excellent SE traffic. Apparently too much traffic is slowing down access to databases on my shared host causing my sites to connect 70% of the time at best. After reviewing several sites, I found this from hostgator. http://hostgator.com/dedicated.shtml - I'm thinking the Elite package. That should pretty much guarantee 99% uptime and a fast load - is that right? Plus I need the 2,500 GB of bandwidth. Anybody have any experience with HostGator? Is this a good deal? Are they good to deal with? Anthing would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, boxer126
Up until a few days ago I would have highly recommended Hostgator. I'm sure some of the members here will jump in with their excellent reviews but here's mine. Most of the time support has been very good, replied within a couple of hours at the most and issues were resolved fine. The last few days since I upgraded my server support has been absolutely HORRIBLE. They are taking forever to reply to my tickets and completely disregrading 90% of my questions/concerns. For example - there were a number of issues with the new server setup and I brought them all up. I then get a reply saying that (pick a random issue from my ticket) has been fixed and no talk of my other problems. It's like I'm talking to a friggin' brick. I have asked to speak to a supervisor or manager twice today already because I had enough. Both times they couldn't get a hold of one and said they would pass the info on. The last time I talked he said my issue would be looked into real soon. Here I am hours later still waiting. Before upgrading my server I asked if they gave refunds for the remainder for the old server. They said yes. What do I get when I ask for a refund now? Daniel, Unfortunately we cannot pro-rate refunds on dedicated servers as we pay them in full for every month they are in service. -- Sincerely, SOME RANDOM BRICK HostGator.com Managed Hosting MY ASS. As far as I'm concerned I will be looking for a new host soooon.
I would not recommend godaddy web hosting, their market is domains and that should be it. All godaddy is, is a reseller of wildwestdomains, if your looking for top notch support check around some well known hosting directories.
Thanks for the responses everyone. I went with HostGator's Dedicated "Elite" package. The only thing I saw people complaining about HostGator was their recent (and I mean within the last 5 days) lack of speedy support. Who knows? Maybe some people got sick. Since I've been with them (two days) I've contacted support twice with about 8 different questions and I received answers to both queries within 10 minutes of submission each time. So, I don't know what everyone was talking about. So far, even though I haven't uploaded my sites yet, I'm extremely happy with my decision. If the past two days are an indication of how they run their business, then it's going to be a very seemless, easy-to-use and friendly process/experience. -boxer126
I went with Softlayer, it was cheaper than hostgator and their support is much faster, tickets are read and assigned to a tech within 2-5 minutes and typically resolved within 10 minutes of me opening them. I've been quite happy.
Ya well check out my full story here if you want: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=596286 I loved them since I"ve been with them but this last week has been HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. And they lied to me about the refund or someone screwed up, anyway, have a read.
No thats not true. Wild West is the reseller of godaddy. Yes gathor host had great support for their reseller i had. But again gathor host is way over priced. - John
My 2 cents, would be to go here for managed servers: wiredtree.com (Dual Core servers with full management from $179) And go here for high bandwidth in the US: drgservers.com (dual core servers with 4TB from $160)
It's true. Dedicated server are not like shared hosting where we can give pro-rated refund. Many companies will not give a pro-rated refund for dedicated server. Perhap, you should take note on this policy on the next purchase.
I guess you didn't read this part of my post: "Before upgrading my server I asked if they gave refunds for the remainder for the old server. They said yes." I have a ticket in their system to prove this. Perhaps you should take note of the whole post before posting a reply. I think you would do well on their support team, just skim through what people write and give a half assed response.
Sorry to hear this. If they have agree, i think they should keep their promise. Unless it is a mistake by their junior saleman/woman.
No problem, it's just nice when someone reads everything and there isn't any miscommunication Even if it is a mistake by the staff they should honour what was said. They should then take appropriate action with the employee not take it out on a client and say we'll give you $50 which is what they did but that isn't even half of what I should be getting and then they say that's being generous, what kind of bs is that.
I had the exact same drama with my dedicated server and then I recieved a call from the supposed manager telling me to backup the info because they were turning my server off the next day. They grew to big and hired idiots!!!! Just hope you dont need help or support. I read this too late, would have split the referal commision with you.
Check out HostDrive.Com's Dedicated Server offerings here: http://hostdrive.com/dedicated Our prices start at $89/mo. We would match Host Gators bandwidth/transfer allotment as well on any of our plans. Feel free to PM me, or me.
