SEO for Wordpress Blogs: STAYING at #1 in Google?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by donkevlar, Apr 4, 2007.

I run a number of wordpress blogs, some do better in Google than others. Some will rank good, and stay #1 for a long time with no problems.

I've found that a bunch of my sites, I'll optimize them, get listed in google and be # 1, 2, or 3 for my keyword. I'll get loads of traffic for about a week and then they'll drop to near nothing. A month later, it'll be listed again only to drop again after 3 days.

What's the best thing to do when you're in the Google position you want?

Note all your keyword densities and etc, keep posting with the exact same figures?

Stop posting, you're #1 why change it?

    Discuss.

You can do everything to optimize your blog, but remember that your competitors also have the same opportunities to rank high - that's beyond your control.

So the advice is to write for your readers and not for the search engines.

Ok. Yes, I know to write quality content, but thats besides the point here.

As far as SEO could I lose my spot by writing posts that change the keyword density? Would it be safer then to just not updated it for the duration of my #1 spot? Return visitors aren't my main focus, just SE traffic.

No website remains at a position for long. The shifting in position can be attributed to either competitor getting the best out of their optimization or due to Google making updates.

As long as you are getting what you want- traffic/sales/leads- from the #, it shouldn't make any difference to you due to dancing of position in SERPs. :)

Content helps a lot to stay on #1 or 1st page.
keep on posting relevant articles or else competitors might overrun your rank.

Well www.agnivo.com and www.agnivo.org have most of the posts ranking top or in the first page after a few days of posting.

All the content is unique and takes perilious effort to churn them out... :p

And don't forget there are billions of sites besides yours...so others have a great probability to outrank you in a matter of days if not minutes!

Above all, don't lose sight of your marketing goals. Being ranked high and getting more traffic is just a means to selling your product, making more money, etc.
