    Becuase what would typically be a "good" reason, you may want to consider making name changes a private thing rather than the current situation IMO.

    I think it is a great idea to stop name change all together. I wanted to change mine because I closed my domain but thought it would cause too much hassle for the server. Keep up the good work Shawn!!

    Just a thought: my name could now refer to my waistline :eek: LOL

    I wonder if the reasoning behind this is stemmed from a huge amount of requests to change usernames. ??? I've had to change names a few times, and it's not that big of an issue, it's really quite simple, so that is the only reason I could think of doing away with this.

    I could definitely be wrong but I thought the way vbulletin was setup is that like normalized db design, the username itself is in a set table, probably members, everything beyond that is just a unique identifier for these very purpose. With that, all you have to do is change a single table with a single entry. If that's taking a lot of resources, then there is bigger issues. Again, I don't know the vbulletin table structure but that's how anyone with mysql knowledge would design it and certainly they have that. Just curious I guess if that's not the case.

    No, it's not a DB problem.

    100% normalized is bad design in itself from real-world usability. In many cases doing 100% normalized can put undue stress and added queries to the DB server. So while username (mostly) just exists in the user table, there are some other places it exists within a serialized bit of PHP data (private message table for example). Doing it that way removes a ton of query loads from the db server. So the way vBulletin designed it is actually the best way.

    Well I am just glad the decision was made. I have had 1 name change over a year ago. Simply that I chose a username to match my domain that I eventually sold. So people really need to think before choosing a name. Be thoughtful and take careful consideration before choosing. Other than that, Shawn made a wise decision.

    So if you dont want to be known as D***Head, than dont go with something like that.

    What if you also allow username requests if a member donates a certain amount to DP. Just like for custom user titles. Do you think that's a good idea?
