Social bookmarking sites rarely have anything in common with forums. This is about to change.

Bumpal.com the social bookmarking site made specifically to promote forum threads has just released the Bumpit plugin. This adds a series of buttons to each thread that allows a quick submission to all the major social bookmarking sites.

Currently the plugin is available only for PHPBB forums, but a vBulletin will be released in the immediate future.

You can download the plugin here and you can find the installation walkthrough here

    Best regards, George

Cool idea, horrible domain name. The domain name makes me think of something other than what you are offering lol.

Well Bumpal is an easily brandable name, that's why we chose it. Thanks for the input.

I think of "bum" "pal" (sounds like a gay porno) not "bump" "al".

    Anyways, best of luck.

    What drig said... lol.

It may have sounded like a nice brandable domain, but in english "bum pal" has a sexual meaning that you probably don't want associated with your service.

I think people are running out of words that make sounds, ie: zoom, clump, bum pal

The advantage of the name "bum pal" is that you will get some good organic traffic, unfortunately all the men that end up one your site will be disappointed with what they find since they are looking for a specific type of affection, not a social bookmarking/forum connecting online service.

Well, I can only hope that in the future when someone will be searching for bumpal, they'd be appalled to find the results you mention of.

Thank you all for the nice words. Has anyone installed the plugin yet? I'm curious to find out what sort of traffic the presence on the first page of Bumpal will bring.

    Regards, George

This is the same thing as Digg really, all you've done is made is specifically for forums... What about forums that are private, how can those be promoted?

I assume that private forums are made with a a purpose in mind, mainly to be... private. As for the comparison with Digg, there is more to Bumpal than meets the eye. An example would be the search engine: it uses a proprietary ranking algorithm based on factors specific to forums only (number of views, number of replies, date of last reply etc.). Also although Digg and Bumpal do have a similar structure, you must agree that they cater to very different audiences and that forums have long been neglected by the Web 2.0 movement.

As for the availability for other types of forum software (someone mentioned PunBB) we are currently waiting to see how the present release will catch up and if things go well we will consider releasing the toolbar for these too.

Note: The vBulletin will definitely be released, it is now in development.

    Best regards, George
