How many visitors a day did your blog get on its first month?

I want to make sure that my blog is doing okay, because it's been almost a month now and I only get around 40-60 visitors a day.

Quite a few per day (150 ish uniques), but I was using BlogMad and that always get the visitors rolling in quickly. BlogMad traffic is unsustainable for the long term - I found myself surfing for credits about 10 hours a day just to keep my account in credit. Thankfully now I get the same amount of traffic on most of my blogs without BlogMad.

That's decent for the first month. You should use StumbleUpon to generate some free traffic until you start to get more search engine referrals

I think 60 uniques per day in first month is a decent traffic. Just keep your post good and it will turn into your regular readers.
I you are talking of the blog in your sig, then you can add some feed subscription buttons in it. this will help you to get some regular traffic.

I have similar numbers for my blog. It is nice to learn that it is decent.

So what is the next step? How many months we should wait to reach better numbers if we are adding ~20 entries per month in a very specific topic like nanotechnology? :)

This is my first month on this blog, (21 posts) and I am averaging 200 visitors a day, but my max feed readership is only 45.

My best day is 275, and my worst is 12 (in the beginning).
The best stats days for me are Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Thusday's are hit and miss. My best day was on a Thursday.

Friday's and Saturdays are OK in the morning. (Probably because I cater to a readership that is out on the weekends, as am I)

I think 60 in the first month is good!

The site I started (in sig) received an average of 2,000 per day in its first month, but that's because it was listed on fark.com. I think the average without the fark spike was about 500/day. Quite a bit from blogmad and blogexplosion though, I didn't stop using them for about 2 months.

BTW - feed readership of 45 is very good for your first month.

That's a good start but the real work is ahead of you. I started at 60-100 in the first month and I am at 4000 now.

    I've stalled though

WTF? You started with 2000 readers a day? You have to share this wonderful knowledge Oh great one!
I know SEO guys that have been around since Archie, with PR 7 websites, that don't get 2000 a day.
    How?
    Help us.
    <edited>
I see that your site has been around since 2002. Do you think that has a lot to do with it, as there were not 71 million blogs in 2002?

    Your Expertise Please.

Fennimore, hmansfield, and others (particularly those who said they'd rep for suggestions on hitting 2,000/day ;) ):

I wrote the message below as a response to someone who wanted to know how I hit 5,000/day on my site by January (month 3). Also, the site was registered to someone else in 2002, I bought it when it expired in 2005 and parked it for a year. It had PR 0 with 0 visitors/day throughout that period, and didn't start receiving more than 10-20 visits from Google until after my first Digg (in December) so I don't think the domain name age was a factor.

Hopefully this is useful to you:
    --------------------------
There were a few things that helped me get to this level, here's what has been "my formula":

    1. I posted a few very original and well received posts early (one even got shown on VH1). Here are examples of these super-popular posts (each got well over 20,000 visitors):
    Top 10 worst halloween costumes
    Slow motion golf balls
    Celebrity Look-a-likes part 1

    2. I get stumbled A LOT. My original humor pieces seem to get a lot of traction on SU, and often accounts for 1/3 of my traffic (particularly on days when I have over 5,000 visitors)

    3. I comment on other blogs A LOT. In the past 3 months, according to Yahoo I left over 3,000 comments on other people's blogs. This may sound like a lot, but I can often whip out 30 comments a day can be done in 30-60 minutes

    4. I originally signed up for Blogmad.net. This was useful to find new blogs and comment on them quickly (and also find good material). I don't use it much now, but originally I received ~100 visits per day (same # as I visited per day)

    5. If I post something that I think will get a lot of traction (my recent Paris Hilton/Smurfette post for instance), I try to "advertise" it a little. Let others know, ask a friend to stumble it if they like it, post on a couple sites like reddit/del.icio.us, etc. I don't do this as much now that I have a stable base of readers, but this helped some at the beginning

    6. I always try to keep my posts readable, unoffensive, and enjoyable by the "lowest common denominator". While many techies and "scholarly" folk have felt my site is somewhat common/simplistic, the vast majority of readers (from students, to nurses, to a couple preachers) have given fairly positive feedback.

    7. I listed myself in a bunch (~10) directory/ranking sites. Across the 10, I now get ~100 visits per day, but that may be partially due to my site being listed at or near the top of each of these now (and also being a silly name)

    8. I post regularly on forums and sites like slashdot. I probably spend too much doing so, but seems to help in the search engine rankings (I get ~200 visits per day from Google now)

That's about it. I spend FAR too much time on my site, but it's a labor of love for the moment. With any blog, I think the secret to success is either by building a community (by visiting/commenting on lots of other sites), or by being VERY original. Each blog has it's own formula, and best of luck finding yours.

Through heavy marketing I had a few big articles that got me a little under 40-50,000 visitors and about 150,000 pageviews.

But that was 1-2 days. Normally I try to break 100/200 visitors a day and over 500 pageviews.

Those big traffic spikes DID get me some backlinks though. My PR hasn't gone up from 0 (site's just over a month old), but I'm noticing almost 100 hits a day now from Google which is awesome. Lots of 1 hit google searches too. I don't rank well yet for the big words, but when I have 100 hits for other longer searches, that makes me happy :)

Anita's blog is a good example which shows that social media websites can and SHOULD be leveraged for traffic and link building.

60/month is good for starters. I'll take that any day for new blogs that I start. I'm starting to wonder what I'm doing wrong for traffic generation when I'm reading some of your guys' posts :?

i got about 100+ visits after 2-3 weeks of my blog! it was indexed in google in 3 days, and in the first week it was indexed by all major search engies.

now it is getting huge traffic!! but then people are not subscrbing by the feeds, just 10-15 feed readers, don't like that too much!
