Hey. I am intrested in making a blog. I would like to host my blog myself, and have a paid domain name. I have seen alot of blogs with sub domains from sites.

Dose these website host them for free, and allow you to add your own adsence to them? I would like to know this.

I would like to know of a good blog software, and I would like all possible information you guys can give to me to help me have a better idea of how this works.

    Thanks,
    BlueEew.

Wordpress is the best platform IMO. Yes they are free, but limited to what you can do.
You can put adsense on a Blogger blog. Not Wordpress.

If you are driven by content only and not money, free hosting is fine, you will still get SEO love.
If you want to make money, (first of all good luck) host your own blog.

Other than that...look around, check out other blogs, look at old threads, your first 20 questions have probably been asked already. Feel free to post them up, most of us love helping out. I know i have asked many dumb questions here and gotten some great information, and help.

Pick a subject that is not saturated. Some that come to mind are, SEO, Blogging for Money, How to make money on the web, (you get the picture).
Blog about something that you know and love, that no one can do the way you do it and it will take you a long way.

You can learn 2 things by looking at other blogs...What to do...and What not to do, based on your preferences and what works.
I have seen many blogs that I don't like, but are successful, and just the opposite. You can get tips all around you.

What would prevent you from having adsense on a WordPress blog?

    I mean free hosted. Wordpress.com
If you host it yourself, you can put Hooker street fights on it, and GGW aff links. (New Niche'?)

    For this, you:
get a computer, to serve your website (Server)
direct your domain address to your Server's network
direct port 80 to the Server if you have a router
on your server run Apache or IIS (Internet Information Services) ... correction from ISS (or IIS but I think its Internet System Services)
In the set up of Apache or ISS it will ask for a base or root directory... this is where your website folder will start (do not include every file like the C drive or the System file)

Personally I think it's real easy to do (I had no prior IT experience and I did it on Linux, which I had never seen or used before). The free way to go is with Linux, most come with server programs. You may need to watch out for hackers... turn on update your system and block all unneeded ports! Someone will probably post after this telling you not to do it... there are ups and downs.

Go to www.opensourcecms.com - Scroll down to blogs ... try some - and decide and get an overview.

Blogs are easily ported (often) if you for some reason need to change down the line. So find something that's easy for you, and supported by the hosting you choose... ie: what database it uses (MySQL), what code language (PHP) and ask the host.

Typically if you buy a domain and hosting, the company will have script installers (ie Fantastico) - and with one click you have a standard blog set up and ready to run.

    Good luck.

Don't do it! Just kidding :) I have always though about Linux. I have never seen anyone suggest that before. Nice tip! I am actually going to copy and paste that on Notepad for the future.

For blogging software, I would recommend Wordpress. They have plugins to change your layout, add adsenses, add a forum, has its own search engine... a ton of stuff. Makes it real easy to get started. Requires PHP and MySQL. It's also free.

    Advantages:
    • Easy
    • Makes a good looking site
    • Doesn't use up too much time
    Disadvantages:
    • Don't learn HTML and CSS... Maybe PHP too, depends.
    • Can lead to hacking... Hackers go for holes in 3rd party software because then they can use the same hole on multiple sites. You may need to upgrade you version when a new one comes out or patch your site.

I can give a web hosting + domain name for $30. You get unlimited space and bandwidth for that. The hosting comes with WordPress. Its a one click install. And yes you can add your own adsense codes to your site, whether its hosted by me or wordpress.

Thanks for all that information you are very kind. :D I am making my first blog with aniche that I love, so no its not just for money. ;) I want AdSence on my blog though to see how much I can get from the blog, and also to pay funds off.

    Thanks for that information.

Thanks for that website link, the information was very usefull.

So that means you can host your own woedpress blog, and then you are allowed to add AdSence, otherwise free blogs don't allow it except Blogger.

Is that per year, or per month? I would like more information on your hosting, when you see unlimited it don't seem right.

    Well I would like my own blog to;

~Be hosted on a shared hosting account,
~With a top level domain name,
    ~I would like AdSence,
~Add I would like to be able to make custom layouts for the blog.

I also want the blog to contain two colnums, first one for content, and one on the right hand side for menus.

    Hello,

Yes as you said earlier unlimited hosting is not possible.. but I give 1TB of space and bandwidth and its more than enough...

Yes, You can add adsense in the blog and Yes, Its a shared hosting and you can choose the layout and templates of your choice I will help you in that also.

Also, if you are interested then I can give you a Life Time Hosting. Which costs a one times fee of $50 only. Domain Renewal fees are to be paid annually.

    Thanks,
    mahesh
