Are they becoming more popular and more known now? I am thinking of investing in one or two. Good idea or bad?.. I saw in np forums, they say there gonna get bigger.. :)

If you're planning on a TV related project or your business is based in Tuvalu, then get a .tv domain name.
    Otherwise look for alternatives.

    A small island republic on the Tuvalu islands;
formerly part of the British colony of Gilbert and Ellice Islands until it withdrew in 1975 and became independent of the United Kingdom in 1978

Tuvalu is the country that .tv extensions stand for :)

Heh, did a copy and paste for you from Google, (since asking a question like "what is tuvalu" may sound funny) and did not bother much what those numbers were meaning

Just keep in mind that .tv domain extensions have been launched at a later date ;)

There is a slight buzz among domainers, but that's about it; no big sales have been reported so far.

At over $40/year they are expensive to hold on speculation that the one you bought will go up in price. If you hold it for 2 years do you think you can sell it for over $80 at the end of 2 years? Make sure you get a really good name.

Yeah, that is the point, holding a domain name for 2 years will already cost you good money.
And you can't be sure you'll sell it well at the end of that period.

Wow, I always thought that .tv extension was for television, like .mobi is fore mobile. Thanks for the info Clive. Will keep Tuvalu in mind.

It is marketed as an extension for television. It has very little to do with Tuvalu now.
    Read about it here: http://www.tv/

Yeah, that is a marketing strategy. Little interest for Tuvalu related domain names unless your business is based in Tuvalu.

.com and only .com. .TV is not profitable to my knowledge as much.

Nothing is as profitable as a .com domain.
But we are talking about usability here, not profitability, aren't we?

I'm not sure; it depends on what the OP means by "investing".

    Recent .tv domains sold:
    Businesschannel.tv and liveshop.tv sold for $10000 each in 2006.
    sms.tv sold for $18000 in 2005. Mail.tv sold for $35000.

So look at mail.tv. How will you do tv channel for mail? But it was sold for decent price. Also sms.tv the same. Nothing to do with television. But it is fashionable to stand out from the crowd. Therefore, not be narrow-minded. .tv should not be related to the small country and just look into next 20 years when population ever increasing and there will be more demands for the domains.

But it is up to you to be narrow or open minded. But anyway you will not find common/proper one word .tv domains and I would be surprised if you could find one.

Question is would you buy mail.tv at that price? Even if you had the money?

I might if I got project to offer free or paid emails like yahoo, google or some major project with mailing system. It stands out nicely with massive advertisement.

I like how TV, AM and FM look and sound, but I don't like the registration fee of any of these, LOL
