Hi Link exchanges would work well. Ask people to blog about this website. You should also go to Adbrite.com to buy some ads and get targeted traffic to your website. Its not a bad website this. With the right marketing you can get it popular. You might want to write a Press Release or ask a proffesional person to write it for you to build up buzz and interest. You can also consider doing offline promotion - you can give out brochures and advertise in newspapers. Some newspapers are quite cheap in their rates. Hope that helps.

Marketing is undefinable. Do whatever you want, certain things work for different people. Everything is different to people in different niches. If you work hard enough im sure you will get sucess.
Pay per click might not work too well. Why not try pay per impression? It's cheaper and it'll get your name out. The best method is word of mouth (your site has the potential for it!!) so try getting your site's name out first
A depressing answer, but very correct. Just make sure you log what works for you and why. Then do the 80/20 rule. Spend 80 of your time/budget on what you know works, and 20 experimenting.
I think your site would suit being on a website like fark.com, try buying a link/advertisement on there would be much more suitable for your site than to be on adwords i would think.
