Which do you think is generally better for marketing a content-based website - forum posting or blog commenting? Is it better to leave quality blog comments on various related blog pots with your link, or is it better to post quality posts in related forums with your link in the signature? I don't know. Posting comments on blogs can be good because you don't have to register for many blogs, but is bad because almost all blogs use nofollow. Forums don't usually have nofollow, but it's always the same people seeing your links. What do you think?
Blog comments get you more exposure. You can gain more natural links that way, and those are what you really want.
that's all crap. All (most of them actually) blogs are based on WP (Wordpress) which implemented the re="nofollow" links on comments. your link will never be taken in any mathematical calculations by google because it will skip it. Forums are better for creating back links.
I'd prefer forum posting. Aside from usually being taken into account by search engines, I find it easier to make forum posts than blog comments.
I get enormously more traffic from forum posting, but higher quality links from blog comments and other blog links. So I'd say mix them up. No effective marketing strategy can be based on only one tactic.
Definitely blog comments. NoFollow doesn't matter to Yahoo and MSN anyway and you're leaving a permanent link on someone else's blog.. it'll definitely bring traffic over the long run if you are an active commenter.
I prefer forum comments. It's good if you can join more than one forum and be actively helpful in all of them. Blog comments get read by much fewer people.
blog comments usually have rel="nofollow" attribute so backlinks from these comments are not counted by search engines (google, yahoo and msn). More information can be found here: http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/050118-204728
Blog comments help in search results and it also help in getting new viewers and exposure of your own site/blog.
Posting URL to Blog comments does not add weightage to your search engine ranking since by default they use rel=no follow although trackbacks to popular websites and get you good traffic Forum postings help increase ratings as well as drive permanent traffic
I guess I'll do both, to get the best of both worlds. How much traffic do you all generally get from forum posting? For example, how many visitors do you think you get in a month for every hour you spend forum posting? Thanks, Scott
For SEO (MSN & Yahoo), blog comments are better, for making sales and generating traffic, forum posting is better.
