simple question: do you think a .info domain will do just as well as a .com domain for a dieting site? Im asking because the domains i want are already taken.

.com always does better than anything else , specially for people to remember, yes for seo it doesnt make a differnence.
i wonder why do you ask if the domains you want have already been taken

I think he means the .com is already taken and that's why he's considering buying the .info

Every time the .com is taken, I go for the .net

.info is left as my next alternative, unless my name matches perfectly with the extension, as in example obtain.info or something like that ;)

If you can do it, altering the keyphrase would probably better; .com is king.

Well, if that's the case, I suppose .info is fine if it's appropriate.

For sure, i'll go for .com.

    Why?
It's more brandable and user will remember it instead of .info

Since I write content sites I figured .info was a good choice when the .com was not available. I think it's fine from an SEO standpoint, but lately the discounted pricing structure of the .info's means that every spam site in the world is going onto cheap .infos. I think that's a large potential problem.

Unless you're doing a little spamming, stick with a .COM

So what's your decision? .com or .info?

.com is the un-disputed king of all the extentions :)

To me, .INFO is just fine for informational websites, if .COM is unavailable. And I'll probably leave .NET away for that purpose.

.com is always best, but .info might be fine, since it is an informational site.

Get away from that crap :D, it's just some bullshit Verisign and ICANN created to make more money (even though it makes much more money for us too). :)

To me, .INFO looks fantastic in the address bar so I don't really care much if they introduced it to make more money which they obviously have (business is business, after all). Try to compare it with the .MOBI stuff and you'll see what is the real BS here :)

The .INFO alternative has saved us (me, for instance) big times while most of the quality .COM names are gone.

.com is always better, but since it is a diet informational website, .info will be fine.
Don't worry about the extension. Think about the conntent...

When you press Ctrl+Enter on the address, the browser automatically adds "http://www." and ".com".
