If your experience comes true this time too --then I am gone:mad: --no way I'll have any improvement. Fortunately except 2/3 links --al my links are permanent --as I went for the long-term.

I think update is really round the corner--but the million dollar question is when? That is the outmost secret I think G keeps --never lets webmasters to make a correct guessing. :(

Of course if it had let us know--we could have done so much in terms of planning links marketing, and many more.:p

Surely, not every website will be appointed a new Pagerank within the coming span of PR Update.

PR Update generally takes a time span of 7-15 Days in which Google makes a clear research on your webpages before giving a new PR.
Many datacenters give different PRs which is one of the reasons for them been taking that much time.

Still, those 1-7 days dont have much waitage since the links are Classified to be "New" according to Google.
Though, incase you have a very large amount of Links within that period of time, will generally do gives a boost over your new PageRank. Even though, the new links pointing to the pages should be a sign of Natural Link Building.

I have experimented myself in the last PR Update when I recieved a PR3 on a less then 1 Month Old blog, which consisted of totally original content. Though, the blog deserved a PR5

It depends, on Google Alogrithm. Though, I am looking for more information, about it more.

Howlong do you think it takes for the links to help with SERP?

This will no doubt be quicker for PR? Do you think?

Do links on other websites have a more immediate effect?

I only ask cause ive just spent 200$ on 6 links, its a monthly thing and I want to know how long it will take before they start to have an effect.

For SERPS it depends on the competition of the keyword you are targeting as google ads more weight to older links. I have had links targeted for less competative phrases boost my SERPs within a week while links for more competative phrases did not seem to have any effect until 4 months later

How do you gauge the competition for the keyword?

And what value to you think is competitive...

    >>My question is, lets hypothesize that the next PR update is in 7 days. Will any links I get within this time, have a DIRECT effect on any PR changes that I may accumulate.

it's usually too late unless you are listed on very popular pages with a high page rank which gets spidered almost daily (remember your link has to be on that actual page and not on a subpage within the site)...You should plan your link strategy months before the next update because some pages gets updated rarely and if your link is located on these then there would be no effect..

    Good Luck :)

Its not really that hard to judge the competition of a keyword. Just type in a search for say SEO and you will get 129 million results definatly alot of competition but do a search for say affordable SEO and you will get 1.3 million results which is generally considered non competative. Not that its any set standard but I generally rate competition like this

5 million or less = Low competition
10 million to 6 million = Below average competition
20 million to 11 million = Average competition
40 million to 21 million = Above average competition
    40 million+ = High competition

The speed with which links help for the serps is dependent on several things:
    - the trust your site already had before getting those bought links (including age)
    - the trust of the sites linking to you
    - the speed with which google indexes the sites linking to you

I have no clue about toolbar PR though...

As long as Google has indexed your links you will recieve some PR benifit from them. The only thing that is dependent on a links age is for SERP rankings.

I created 9 sites before the last PR update and by the time the next PR update came around all sites where less than 3 months old and no site had any incoming links more than 2 months old and they all went from PR0 to PR3 - PR5

How many incoming links did you have to each site and how much link development did you do?

We all noticed back links update while ago
I would say, that was a cut off date as far as what is going to count for the new PR.

Ranking while spending BL money is one thing, going down after you stop paying is another. I hope you understand that soon after you layoff the paid links your SERPS likely will follow same direction- unless of course those paid links weren't worth much to begin with.

It was merely an answer. You sounded concerned about spending 200/mo. Apparently I have misjudged your post and money is not an issue here.Good for you.

Why don't we make some hypothesis how google works? If there are some "PR bots" then it would make sense that if the links you got are in a site where bots visit regularly, you could have a positive PR feedback in a few days (maybe not 7 but 15 or something).

But i have to notice that you shouldn't build links only for PR. Maybe it would be more important to invest in order to get your rankings higher. If there are "ranking bots" (another innocent hypothesis) i think they work much more intensively than "PR bots".

I agree, your already late with backlinks update, I believe that quality backlinks is one of the elements that is consider in giving PR value, but I believe also that text content also affect google PR.
