I was just curious...we all blog for different reasons. Those of you who are looking for huge traffic....At what point do you consider your blog successful, and worth putting the "big push " on for traffic and marketing. X number of daily readers, and X RSS subscribers. 20, 50, 100, 1000 ? I heard on MSNBC that the average blog (taking the sheer numbers into account) gets 1 reader a day, if you average it out. Is there a threshold that some of you passed, or are looking to pass that will make you, or has made you say, " OK, it's on now!" And what do you consider acceptable traffic for a not so popular blog, before it is a waste of time for the writer. Interested in your thoughts.
It is not a waist of time if site is just your venting. Some people blog just to get things of thier chest. Traffic wise it all depends on site. Yes few people a day means nothing to me. Few hundred is nice but a thousand and up it gets interesting. That is when you get gready for more and more and no matter what it never is enough.
I am starting to see that the goals I have set seem like nothing when I get there. I need to put the big push on now that submissions are coming in left and right, and I am starting to get offers for interviews and exclusives. Any advanced suggestions that anyone has will be helpful, besides the regular directories, link exchanges, ect. Also, who here has over 5,000 readers? Some tips?
I'm not sure how many readers I have, but I get on average 250 visitors daily. I consider it a success when someone posts a comment or somehow shows their interest in what I am writing about or doing Probably a low line to accept success for, but it always makes me happy when I get a comment.
I'm not really in it for the bulk readership. I don't expect to make a fortune from blogging or anything like that. I just enjoy it, and use my blogs as a place to say absolutely anything I want in the niche. I consider it successful once one of a few things happen, like a recognizable industry professional becoming a regular reader and recommending it, noticing that most of my readers are repeats, and when someone contacts me to tell me they consider one of my blogs to be a must-read. That's the kind of stuff that makes it worthwhile to me.
Just so you know..I read your bog . I don't know where I found it, it wasn't here, but it is subscribed on my home page, and has been for a while. It's good stuff. Thanks.
Sucess is in the mind. If you are just blogging to get rich, it's a tight field. For me, I like to write and like to express my opinion (I have many). I am excited everytime someone leaves a comment and if I make a bit in adsense or Amazon, all the better. But for me, the blogs and my sites are more a hobby and if I can make enough to pay for my hobby, all the better.
Fad Marketing. I will let you in on another secret. At the time, I was looking for an interesting marketing blog to fill out my desktop. The first thing that caught my eve with yours was the layout, the colors and the font. Just so you know that those things matter. It felt comfortable. I know how important, feed back on the little things can be. But that is not a little thing, and i think an excellent lesson to be had in this thread,(Since I started it and i can do what I want)
That's good to know, thanks, especially b/c the feedback I got at launch was pretty torn on the colors being ok or too bold.
A blog is successful when it accomplishes what it's supposed to. For some, that might be branding a service. It might be helping to sell X products a day. Perhaps it's just getting 10 other people in the world to hear you.
For me a successful blog is one I can stay interested in over the long term and that keeps growing steadily, both with new content and increased traffic every month. I have some blogs I burnt out on quickly, and now just feel sort of guilty about. Those definitely don't meet my definition of success. But they're still out there in the blogosphere, my little orphan blogs. **Sniff** Oh well, at least I still make a few bucks off 'em each month And speaking of money - for blogs I actually have enough confidence to pay hosting and domain fees for, earning back those fees is my most basic criteria for success. And generally the only way for that to happen is if I stay interested, keep adding content, keep growing traffic, etc.
For me, I think the blog is successful if it's on top of SERP for a targeted keyword, if you get high traffic on your blog and if your blogs make you earn more money.
If you really want to quantify it .. I would say 1000 for both (daily visitors and RSS subscribers) ..
That's the kind of answer I was looking for...meat and potatoes! That is a great place to start. I know it is noble to write from the heart and just have respect for the work, and the value that you provide to the community, and not be concerned with secular acknowledgments. Great, but I want to get some hard core numbers. I am not not that passive, and I do care who is reading. Maybe that doesn't make me a text book "blogger", but I have something to say. I like saying it, and I want those that appreciate it to come along for the ride. And I want to make it fun! Is that wrong?
I think getting successful with blog isn't a very hard thing. Nowadays beggars are also getting successful.
When I started blogging it was mainly with money in mind but now I find I get just as excited about traffic and subscribers. I'd class a blog as being successful if it has 10K daily visitors or subscribers, ideally both. I run 4 blogs and only 1 of those has surpassed that so far so still lots of work to do here.
Everyone is greedy, no offense here, because I m one of the greedy man too! If you wanna success in blogging, then I would consider 1000 is the minimum readers for success blogger. I still in trouble of get this number. Do anyone have an ideas to get 1000 readers or visitor per day?
For me its about viral marketing, traffic & links. I get excited when hundreds or even thousands of blogs link to my posts. Also the number of subscribers is probably the best metric to judge the success of a blog by. The best way to get more RSS readers is to stick a big RSS feed button on your blog and then start getting the major blogs in your niche to link to your posts.
Article writing and submission, it's working very well for me. I have doubled my traffic and visits within only the past few days! It only takes a small article with very optimized keywords and a link to your site at the bottom. I got that much extra traffic with only one article reviewed on the directories so far. It's also from forum postings too. The siggy def helps a little It's also good to provide helpful information as well, that way the same people will continue to come back many times.
