Given that half the sites that get listed in dmoz were never submitted, the shortest time is a "negative" number and that there may be an editor that has no interest in a particular category, so the longest time is an ïnfinite""number. .... I never promise my clients anything with regards to dmoz

Yup it is, cause someone told me one "something is better than nothing" :D . also look at this way, you get few editors attention and if they like your site and its in waiting list they might go there and approve it, but if you do not get anyones attention who would know that your site even exists?

    Its all about exposure :p

Yikes! I thought 6 months was a while, but over 3 years is insane.

Nothing insane about it. They don't have any obligation to accept your site. Plus, sites that sit around like that most likely don't have a category editor.

I find you need to know someone who's an editor.

I have sites that I'm trying to get listed, over a year and nothing. Whatever though, I think it's novelty is wearing off. Especially after the 5 month server, script whatever the heck, trouble they had.

It can take years depending on the editor backlog. You may be better off paying for the Yahoo! directory listing.

I believe the opposite. In my opinion, the "exclusivity" and "elitism" of having a DMOZ link is making them even more coveted. As hard as it is to actually get a site approved, given all the problems behind the scenes - whether a lack of active editors, or resource failures - the links are, now more than ever, a premium web commodity. (although they're not literally supposed to be a "commodity")
