Hey everyone.. I didn't know where to post this, so I figured I'd put it in the general discussions. Ok so I have a site that it's bandwidth is increasing very quickly, I deal with Powweb.com right now, it has a great deal, for now, but soon I think it will reach it's full capacity and their deal for adding extra bandwidth is not that useful to me, such as, 10$ for 10 extra gigs. I was wondering, for those that might have huge sites with a huge amount of bandwidth, which hosting do you use and what deals do you get? (of course this means something that is reliable) What I get now is 800 Gigs a month. I definitely need more than that very soon. Thanks.
I'm going to be getting a dedicated server with RackForce soon, maybe you should look into them? Their dds400-L package has a 1.5Mbps unmetered bandwidth connection, which equals out to around 950Gigs/month (I think), plus you can upgrade it if you ever need more.
Ahh nice packages, they both seem very good! 2000GB a month! I'm liking the sound of that. I will definitely inform myself to both places... :0) Thanks for the advise. Nikki
1.5mbps isn't very fast at all, for instance if DP were forced to use such a connection, no one would ever come back as it would take literal minutes to load pages under the average pressure of this forum. It's not the sort of thing I'd waste my money on. IMO you get what you pay for, if you really need to use all 800gb of bandwidth I'd suggest you do NOT go for an "unmetered" connection as no such thing exists, all bandwidth has to be paid for, that's a fact and if it were me I'd rather just pay for what I need for the sake of my project rather than moving somewhere that say they'll give you something no one can achieve, it's pretty commonplace for companies that offer "unlimited" resources in the disk or bandwidth department to just suspend or even worse delete your account when it gets too busy for thier hardware.......
Good to know... I just called their cust. serv. and he was saying quite the contrary! lol Anyways still keeping my options open. Thanks
I never said the bandwidth was unlimited. I said a 1.5Mbps unmetered connection would equal out to around 950gigs/month bandwidth. I'm not sure of the exact number, but it's close to that.
GoDaddy gives you 100GB of space and 1000GB of transfer per month for $7. I'm not sure what your requirements are. For $15 a month you get twice the space and transfer. I've also found that GoDaddy doesn't count your database usage as part of your space limitation. I have a 9.5GB database and they show me only using about 3GB of space. You should also look into what exactly is eating up your bandwidth and see about off loading it to somewhere else. I used to run a DMOZ mirror and cut my bandwidth usage to less than 10% just by rewritting the code that rendered the site so it was more efficient.
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Although, I just spoke with my hosting provider, and they have increased their BW to 3000GB monthly (it's their new deal now). I am very happy to say that I will stay with them after all. I have kept your sites just in case. :0)
also http://www.inethost.com/dedicatedhosting.htm they offer 2 terabytes bandwith on all packages but different configuration and space and are quite cheap for the first package!
Go dedicated hosting. I am hosting with HostGator on shared. I dedicated is as good as shared, then you will have no problems.
