Big city - whos bothered?

It just struck me today how little concern people are in a big city. Including myself, dont get me wrong.

I live in the city centre of Manchester (UK) now, and at the end of my road is a skyscraper. Walking past it before and there were police EVERYWHERE - although everybody was just walking past getting on with their lives, including me and my friend. We were both mildly trying to guess what was happening as we were strolling by, a bomb threat came to mind.

Now if this happened where I grew up, in the countryside, this would be the talk of the town - Not one person would stop talking about it for weeks.

It turns out a guy was threatening to jump off of the buliding... I'm not sure if he did.

    Just a little anecdote/rant =-\

Meh, it's just that things that you get used to become "normal".

I live across the river from Kansas City, Missouri. There is a lot of gang activity in the big city, It is not safe even in day time in certain areas. i live in a small city of 4500 people, but during the day time there is over 50,000 people work in this little city. It is amazing of what goes on even in a smaller city. I have a scanner and I have this on 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Most people don't know what does go on in this city. Most of the people are like me retired, soon as a house goes on the market it is snapped up by someone wanting to retire in this small city. I was real lucky 10 years ago of buying a house in this small city. No murders or anything like that, mostly domestic disputes and people stealing.

I'm not bothered at all. I think a big city is more fun than a quiet little town. :D

Yes, I agree. There's just so much more to do, so many more oppurtunities, and so forth that small towns don't have.

Yeah I agree its a million times better in the city - i wouldnt move back to the countryside for anything - although i sadly cant get much nature photography here :-\

its just weird how something that is actually quite interesting, is just 'normal' for city life

That would be OK if the 'stuff' was good, but all the news I see seems to be of bad things.
I prefer the country to live.
I have blackbirds nesting outside my kitchen window, frogs and toads in my pond and pheasants in my garden, that's interesting enough for me.
    Perhaps I'm getting old.:(

I live in North Wales UK, and it is boring as hell. I used to work in the police control room, and I know better than most that a contryside area is busier than you would imagine.
I would much rather live in a city than countryside.
