What can you do with web hosts sites that host sites that are illegal, racist etc. ?

Most of the hosts will take down the sites when you tell them about the content, but you have hosts like www.clichehosting.com that refuse to take down sites before they are reported to the local police. In this example about www.clichehosting.com; they know about the content of the site, but "will not decide what is racist" and "let the police decide what is racist".

You have other hosts like that, the kkk host for example and another hosts that hosts a network of ultra nationalistic sites of my country. What to do with them ?

If the host is off shore if its not in the US than you cant do anything about it. If i buy a server from my country i can do what ever i want put p0rn on, warez, racism anything and you cant do anything about it. So it really depends what country the server is in.

Usually a well worded email should do the trick but I am not too sure about Scandinavian country's. I would imagine that the email would work though, it is usually Russian, Eastern European and mainly offshore accounts (like Hong Kong for example) that would be difficult to close down.

But then again, that's just my thoughts. It depends on the severity of the content.

The problem is that they will not do anything before the police says they have to. Its a question of morality and ethics.

You can always just ignore them.

I don't see the point in getting worked up over this.

I honestly don't see the point either. Why worry about something that you, personally, have no control over? Ignore it and move on.

Wow, really intelligent answers. Ignore the bad things in this world, do not try to do anything about them. Yes, that sounds reasonable

Rather than insulting someone's intelligence, why don't you instead clarify what they meant?

I did not mean to imply you should ignore the "bad things" in this world.

But seriously? The world has more serious problems than a website that hosts racist propaganda. You don't have to agree with their views, but it seems that you've pretty much done all you can.

Thanks for clarifying what you meant in your first post, I would not have insulted you if you did clarify it before.

You are totally wrong, they do not have a right to spread racism.

Free Speech is a bitch isn't it?

    Actually, they do.

Denmark recently bravely allowed the infamous Muhammed cartoons to be published even though ignorant and murderous people killed others over them. The only people who had anything to apologize for were the murderers.

If you don't like what someone says then too freakin bad. Get a life. Whatever happened to sticks and stones will break my bones but names with never hurt me?

Bunch of spineless idiots we have in the world today.

Here in the lands of freedom you have the right to say stupid things. Standing up against racism doesn't mean whining like a little girl and throwing a hissy fit so that the authorities will strip the freedom of speech that you enjoy, from others. You're not doing anything to stand up for anything. You're whining to other people to do your illegal dirty work for you.

Standing up to racism means not giving it the time of day. It means turning your back (difficult to do when you don't have a spine) to racists. It means not being a racist yourself.

Stripping away rights is not "standing up" for anything. It's tearing down and it makes you a spineless fascist. The KKK has a right to say whatever it wants. And you have a right to laugh in their face at their stupid little hats. You have a right to counter their arguments. One of these days you'll grow up and learn that free speech means for everyone to say anything freely. Even if it's offensive to someone.

I live in a land where freedom is appreciated. I have the freedom and the right to try to stop spreading of racism and I am using that freedom.
On the side: I suppose you do not understand how the use of the swastika can be forbidden in Germany ? And you of course disagrees with that law ?

If the site is hosted in North America the most you can do is disagree with their point of view. You don't have the right to take down other people's messages.

Actually, it is a silly law. But it's understandable considering what happened there.

Interesting. I wasn't aware you were in a position of authority to tell other people what they can and cannot say.

Last I checked I didn't have a right to silence people. It's pathetic listening to fascists spout off about rights they don't have in an ignorant effort to try to strip rights that do actually exist from others.
