its 2007 and I am trying to find a good niche - I found a real good one in the beginning of january but it has died out or is dieing slowly - so I need another one - trying to think what everyone is attaining this year? making more money? <- which is bad since there are so many out there; electronics? <- what type?

I have been looking at several websites for a niche and I think I have a good idea of what I might want to do next but just of the hell of it - what is everyone 2007 niche? or what is it gon to be? or what is the trend going to look like?

Good luck getting an honest answer on that. Most people horde their markets with their lives.

But what the hell, I'll give one since it's in my siggy - I'm building a travel portal. I bought a PR2 domain at tdnam that has some backlinks and is 2+ years old. Site is already built, just waiting on tdnam to transfer it to my godaddy account.

However I wouldn't advise entering the travel market unless you really know what you are doing. It's extremely competitive, and doesn't pay much (3% commission on most purchases, works out to about $30-50/sale usually).

I'm mainly building the site cause I got lucky in the auction. I won the domain for $25 lol.

Travel portal is quite good marketing opportunity as I too have one. Now venturing with hosting video sharing software. Monitoring to see how it goes for the next few months.

I am sticking to what I know best. Developement, design, marketing, etc.

That's what I would advise most people to do as well: Stick to what you are good at.

that is tru - I love electronics and marketing - but tryin to niche to marketers that know the real deal already is hard to get them to start purchase from you since they know u prob have an affiliate code cloaked, marketing adsense, etc etc

that's only unless you target the newbies to each niche ;) A lot of people actually don't know what's going on, they just see a way to make money, and if the sales page is good enough they will buy for the right price.

However I use other tactics rather than making a sales page.

I think thats a good bit of advice. But sometimes, you need to stray from what you know to exploit a situation or a market. It just means you need to learn new things.

That's true, it also enables you to learn more about said niche, which I have done successfully a number of times.

it looks like everything with 2007 is about making more money - but there is way too much competition out there?

what do you think tactics are for 2007? to help with this competition?

I have a few niches I try to focus on:

    Small Business
    Marketing
Public Relations (oddly enough the highest paying so far by focusing on very specific niche topics)
    Indie Music
Freelance writing (launching two new blogs in this one shortly)
Female-oriented Technology (launching two blogs on this subject also shortly)

I generally don't worry about people knowing niches, b/c I focus in areas of my expertise, so noone can possibly come up with exactly the same content for me to overly stress. They're not all terribly high-paying markets either, but I try to stick with what I'm passionate about. If you're trying to choose a niche, that really is key.

The reality of the matter is that you need to take advantage of your most loved niche. And at the same time make the most of the upcoming trends.

Now, if you think staying in your own most loved topic is good enough, so be it. But, if your goal is to do it big and you still have time or enough resources, go diversify.

Thanks to this forum. It's helping a lot! ;)

I've been doing Gifts and General Merchandise for awhile, but i've heard that technology is something worth looking into so i'm trying to find a good niche in the technology sector as well.

jhmattern, if you dont mind, could you expand on what is "female-oriented technology"?

One of the blogs is less female-oriented at the moment, but launched now: www.ChickTech.net - it's going to be a general tech blog, dealing with things like tech news, building websites, blogging, making money online, etc. While somewhat general, it's going to be targeted a bit more to a female audience (like I'll soon be taking nominations for the best women webmasters for example). It's also going to focus less on the programming and similar aspect and more on promotion, relationship building, and ways of monetizing that you don't see much on most tech blogs, which tend to be things women webmasters grab onto more than men (think about all of the WAHM crowd making money online, and you'll see a large percentage do things quite differently than the DP crowd, and quite successfully). :) The other one is going to launch at www.CoolGirlGadgets.com and will focus on female-targetted gadgets (from pink phones to tech advances in home care products).

Mixing women with tech really needs some specialty and pure understanding...very cool one there, ;) , i guess the more u understand the topic/niche, the less headache it will become..unless the old ones were already making money and you can just put it on autopilot to start new one..oh bummer

Let me give you some good advice here specifically targetting women.

Try to create something that has already been done successfully but targetting the female audience.

Such as a Women Entrepreneuring Blog etc

    Good Luck

That's what I already did. ;) Tech blogs are established, and there isn't terribly much targeting women well in that arena. So I launched ChickTech.net, am going to soon officially launch the gadget blog targeting women, and I'm also launching a forum for women webmasters over the next few weeks. ;) I've already got a built in user- / reader-base through some of my other work and connections with female publishers, and the business background to take the approach women tend to prefer over the strictly tech / backend style. I'm good to go with it. :)
