Aright guys, I was stumbling around the internet and checking out some podcasts about new media, i came across this: http://www.901am.com/2007/200-to-social-media-success.html Its a small cast of Diggs founder saying that it only cost him $200 to build, you know i have way way over $200 im my bank right now..... You really wouldn't think that it only cost $200 to build. whats your thoughts?
Yeah, then since Digg, word of mouth promotion is a thing of the past, digg.com is the web 2.0 word of mouth
It's not necessary that with big money you can start a big project. You just need to be consistent and hard working. This is what I am learning these days
Google makes billions a year, how much do you think it took to start it? Hardly anything at all. The main thing is an idea, you can have a great idea and spend $10 and turn that into millions.
Soon, Rose was blabbing about his idea to his girlfriend, his buds, his bartenders. This would be bottom-up media. Citizen journalism. In the fall of 2004, Rose withdrew $1,000 -- nearly one-tenth of his life savings -- and paid a freelance coder $12 an hour to mock up a Web page. He got a deal on server space over the Web for $99 a month. Only one big expense was left: the domain name. He tried Dig.com. *!@#! It was owned by Disney. He offered the owners of digdig.com $500. They wouldn't sell. Ouch. Finally he settled on Digg.com and forked out $1,200 to its owners. The site launched on Dec. 5, 2004. from business Week see article: valley boys
yep very true, the site may not cost very much but the time and money advertising costs the most. I think luck is a big factor as well
Oh yeah, it seemed it didint count his domain name, man id pay $1,200 for Digg.com PR8, 6.6million yahoo backlinks
well, it is amazing how powerful word of mouth marketing is. I'm sure everyone remembers the million dollar homepage. Yeah, not the same staying power as digg, but none the less a cheap startup cost, but incredible idea that paid off.
to add into that: That would be word of mouth promotion to the right tech people, interested in those particular niche
Well I also have $200 but never thing like Digg done it. It is true that you don't need big money for big projects.
