I just read about supplemental results in google SERPs. How do i know that my website is in supplemental results and how can i get out of it.
If you search for your site you will see supplemental results below the description of your site. The reason of supplemental results is duplicate content. To avoid this create a unique content.
Reasons: duplicate pages, identical title tags and identical description meta tags, not enough indexable content, too many parameters in the URL, the page isn't linked to well enough to warrant regular crawling, or the page has no incoming links but remains indexed because it used to have links.
just see the following threads u will find all needed information http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=278300&highlight=supplemental+result+seojig
Some of the reasons for supplemental index are: Duplicate content, pages with no content, Similar Meta tags & pages which add no value.
thanks for the help.. actually the problem is with the blog, poemsofinspiration.blogspot.com , the peoms are all collected ( all published before 1923, no copyright violation) there is supplemental result written when i search for it in google. never knew what it meant.this blog is only a hobby blog..not for commercial purpose.just a collection of inspiring poems.
The answer on getting out of supplementals can be done by the ff: 1.) Unique content - reword, replace and reconstruct. 2.) If no content, put one. 3.) If no backlinks, try to obtain one.
you say it's not for commercial purposes, but maybe it is a little... after all, you're checking out your search engine results. That's okay, you want your blog to be successful, and part of it being successful is having other people visit and see it. Nothing wrong with that. here are two quick fixes. 1) write some original material. even a paragraph or two, about each poem or poet, or collection. just your thoughts, what you like about it: it doesn't have to be earth shattering stuff. just something that the search engines can go "hmm i haven't seen that paragraph before in my travels" 2) get some incoming links. for example, post another couple of posts here at digitalpoint, then go into your UserCP and create a signature, with a link to your blog. that way, every post here will be an incoming link to your blog. here's a not-so-quick fix. 3) buy a domain name (.com, .net, whatever) and put your stuff there. If you don't want to bother with hosting, you can just buy the domain and point it at your blog... and your blogspot blog will suddenly become its own domain.
Hello Pandey, Yes that is one of the problems, the poems as you say, are most likely published in other places. That will trigger a duplicate content filter/penalty by google and could cause you to go supplmenental. There are many ways around this Write your own personal opinion about each poem or some other way for you to add unique content on the page. Or. Make it so your audience can also comment on / review the poem, creating more unique content from your users. If I have a site that uses content on other sites, I like to go with a 50 50 rule, 50% original content to offset the 50% duplicated content. Also your going to wish you have proper META's on all pages, with unique descriptions and titles.
