    For me:
    1) Microsoft
    2) Yahoo
    999) Google

I don't hate Microsoft like all the people on this forum that bash them whenever they get a chance. I think they make good quality products at very reasonable prices. All the people who say they hate Microsoft, most of them use MS software... which I don't get. Also people are quick to mention all the flaws etc but no software is pefect and personally I would like to see any programmes these people have written so I can make completley inaccurate comparison's and pick them to pieces...

I like Microsoft for setting a standard that has allowed computer to talk easily with each other and the other companies for other reasons. I think that people hate MS because they took capitalism to the ultimate level of success. Maybe their tactics were frowned upon but if someone could build a better mousetrap, they would be the one catching all of the mice.

Those corporations, especially Microsoft vs the others, provide different goods/services and overlap only in certain areas.

    1. Yahoo (but only recently)
    2. Google (but seem to be getting worse since the IPO)

Although, this whole conversation would be moot if MS hadn't brought computing to the mass market, so respect there.

Don't forget that it's in the businessplace where MS really holds the power. They don't really give a hoot about the consumer these days IMO.

Novell created DOS and Windows networking, not Microsoft. Microsoft later mimicked it. And TCP/IP? Nope, they didn't invent that. The internet? Nope, they ignored it until 1995. HTML, XML, and RSS? No, they didn't set those standards either. Can you name one standard they set "that has allowed computers to talk easily with each other"?

When someone does build a better mousetrap (e.g. BeOS), they work with their affiliate companies to make sure there is no competition. Microsoft is ANTI-capitalist by not allowing free and fair competition. BeOS and other competitors were not able to get contracts with computer manufacturers because their contracts with Microsoft did not allow it. Microsoft was able to force those terms by threatening to not license their software, which would put computer companies out of business. Their actions aren't just "frowned upon", but are illegal in the US and Europe.

This may be true. But 90% of world's computers run on Windows.
HTML, XML, RSS - they might not have been invented that, But anyone who did would have definitely used windows to do it.

Because it is in to hate Microsoft.

95% of those stating these ridiculous comments have no idea what they are actually talking about and are just following the main stream. They see others (mostly those like them) are bashing Microsoft and are simply imitating this behaviour (a kind of peer pressure).

The remaining 5% (the bashing foundation) should actually know the matter but are mostly bashing Microsoft for "religious" and ideological reasons.

I am not saying Microsoft is perfect (far from that), but the big majority of the critic mentioned in forums like this is unfunded and simply bashing.

Well that has nothing to do with my response or what I was responding to. But it's also incorrect. The majority of small electronics run ITRON. The majority of servers run UNIX. The majority of desktops and laptops run Windows. Overall, Windows is on less than 50% of all electronics.

LOL! I suppose you also think the internet was invented in 1995 when Microsoft first took notice of it. HTML was invented with HTTP to help universities and scientists share information, long before IE existed. They were mostly using Unix workstations and servers. And XML was being voted on as a standard when IE was still in its first versions.

And how do you use Windows to invent a data format? The OS has nothing at all to do with it. It can be done with pen and paper just as easily.

How you're giving Microsoft any credit for things which existed long before they even took notice is beyond me. Please read up on your history before spreading any misinformation.

I've hated Microsoft long before it was "in". I have hundreds of reasons, all with facts to back it up. Check out my site, Microsoft Versus, where I lay out all of the many reasons they deserve to be hated.

You can argue whether or not they deserve to be bashed. But you can't argue with the facts.
