Pick up a copy of "You on a Diet - The Owners Manual for Waist Management" by Drs. Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz. Boy, did it open my eyes! I started cutting out the things they recommend and incorpoarting others....little by little...and I lost 15 lbs in 6 weeks. I know it is not a tremendous amount of weight, but I don't feel like I am on a diet and I am still losing weight. Don't worry....you eat real food on this diet, and I generally don't feel hungry. It's one of those books that as you read it, you feel like the author knows you and your story personally. Almost eerie! but it works.

Are you overweighted? 15 lbs in 6 week is a nice pace.

I was 265 trying to go back down to 190-200. (I'm at 250 now.) The first week I lost the most...about 6 pounds. Since then, I have been losing about 2 pounds a week, and it doesn't even seem like I am on a diet. This is great since at 51 y/o the metabolism isn't like it was when I was 21 y/o.

    This is good believe me:
Eat 6 times a day, but eat very little. When the body gets used to getting food often it will understand that it dont have to store any of it as fat.

    No, it isn't.

The best way is to eat healthy foods and live an active lifestyle.

Take a walk every other day. You'll begin to see results. :)

New studies are revealing it is NOT fat in the diet, it's the KIND of fat that is the culprit.

When all is said and done, the best diets, as advocated in "You on a Diet" and RealAge.com are comprised of a wide range of foods in moderation (processed foods are addictive!) and moderate exercise.

probably, the most important thing I learned is that processed foods, especially refined sugar cane and white flour have chemicals in them that are addictive. Will power on a diet will fail almost every time if we do not deal with these processed foods. We are actually addicted to psychologically and physically. No wonder America is getting fatter and fatter!

This actually is very good advice. You want to make sure that each mini-meal is at least over 100 calories to keep the "furnace" (your metabolism) fired up.

You can actually take that same amount of food and eat it in one or two meals and you won't lose as much weight as if you split it up into 4-6 mini meals. Amount and frequency have a lot to do with maintaining weight.

And, don't eat for about 2-3 hours before you go to bed! This is a crucial time for weight loss seekers.

You must eat small meals 5-6 times a day. You need to find out your calories to maintain weight...(there are many calculators Online to check this) then go between 500/750 calories below that number. Increase your exercise to at least 30 mins 5-7 times a week. Combine cardio (like walking or biking) with some kind of light weight lifting.

Don't fall for ads that say lose 10 pounds a week. Safe weight loss is an average of 1 1/2 - 2 pounds a week. You can lose faster but it hard to keep off and you lose a lot of muscle. The key is to lose as much fat as possible while holding on to your lean muscle mass. Don't just rely on the scale, you can tell by how your clothes fit.

Biggest thing is you can't lose overnight, it took time to gain it and it will take to lose it..

    Good Luck

YES! In fact the scale is one of the worst tools for gaging fitness and healthy weight distribution. USE MEASUREMENTS...unless you can't get the tape measure around your waist...then maybe use the scale for a while until you can get the tape measure around your waist.

Jim, I use the 100 footer tape that you use to measure landscape LOL

Not because I need it but it is the only one that I had that had a cloth tape. But it works for anyone, don't know anyone above 100 feet waist. LOL:D
