As hard as I tried to avoid clicking on my ads. The inevitable occurred today. Here I was scrolling down my page checking to see who was online and I went to scroll up and then BAM I clicked the scroll wheel down instead. I almost made it 2 months without doing so. But accidents do happen, so I immediately contacted google. How long have you guys made it before you accidentally clicked.

It happens some times, it was just an accident don't worry. I've hit mine by accident a few times before and never reported it.

Yeah it happens sometimes - I contacted them the first few times I accidentally did it (I have probably only done it about 4 or 5 times - I have been running AdSense for nearly 3 years) - but if/when it happens these days I don't normally contact them anymore because I'm sure my click is lost amongst all the others.

LOL it is so funny when it happens - you are like "OH SHIT! I just clicked the ad - STOP!" then you click "stop" or "back" immediately but then I'm like "Aww I hope that didn't cost the advertiser any money - the least I could have done was browse around his site for awhile to check his stuff out."

LOL well that is the way I feel anyway.

I haven't clicked my own ad in 2 years.. I wonder what percentage of clicks from visitors are accidental.

On occasion, I click on one of mine purposely - because I'm interested in the ad. I've actually forwarded information from one of the ads to two family members because I thought they might be intersted in the product. And one did make an inquiry.

I don't make a habit of clicking on ads to drive up the click count but if I see and ad that genuinely interests me, why not? Isn't that the whole point of ads?

It's a bad idea. Google don't care if you are interested in the ads or if your family bought something as a result of it. They clearly state, Do not click your own ads.

if you are interested in what the advert is offering you can right click the link, select copy URL, Paste it in your address bar and extract the landing page from it.

Guys, it happens. Just don't do it more than once every few weeks and Google will know that you're not trying to make yourself money. Besides, they won't count your click for cash anyway. You don't have to report it every time, just be careful. It happens to me every now and then too.

lol you don't think Google would have a problem with someone clicking their own ads 2 or 3 times a day?

Please people, read the adsense terms.. It says do not click your own ads.
That means don't click them 2 or 3 times a day and it means don't click them if you are interested in them.

The golden rule of adsense is Don't click your own ads because you will get banned.

Definitely don't click them. One of the quickest ways to get banned.

I've clicked mine by accident a couple times, once I was trying to adjust my browser size and hit the ads by accident, the other time I was going for the scroll bar and missed. (Sometimes I'm in a little too much of a hurry.) Both times I sent them an apology and said they could cancel all my clicks for that day if they wanted. But they didn't, just sent a standard note saying don't do it again please.

I advertise with Adwords too and it's no fun thinking of all those accidental clicks going on. Now whenever I see an ad I like, even in search results, I type the URL in rather than click on it. Makes me feel like I'm doing the advertiser a favor.

Yeah, I have done it accidentally before. It's so frustrating!

Sometimes things do look interesting, but it's better to just copy the url and then paste it in the address bar. Google love any excuse to ban people's accounts.

Here's a tip: If you REALLY want to keep from clicking your own ads, use PHP or ASP to not show the ads to your IP address. :)

I've been revamping my site lately, and the other day I clicked on one of my ads - again, panic set in! It's not like I have any real traffic yet, so I emailed them and they were fine - what happens about 1 hour later.... BAM! I hit the scroll wheel again where an add was and load another one - straight on the reply to the first email I got back. Luckily they were very good about it again. Just be honest and let them know and I am sure it will be ok. If you tell them, then they know that you are not trying to get anything out of clicking your own ads afterall.

Lesson I learnt - be VERY careful when editing your pages over VNC! I made a point of replacing the ads with images after that for safety until the site was back in shape.
