Has anyone here ever promoted affiliate programs through toolbar applications?

I'm going to be promoting a lot of freebie offers (zip/email submits) through a toolbar program I'm releasing.

Has anyone here done this before? What kind of install/conversion rate did you have? I'm hoping I can get at least a 1:1 ratio. Maybe it will exceed my expectations and be higher though? Hopefully. :)

There is a few programs like this that have come and gone over the years...not worth the effort as the conversion rates are useless

I think you're confusing a toolbar program with something else.

There are a ton of toolbar programs that are used and they are very profitable (zango, starware, etc.).

Although mine will be more ethical than zango.

Oh, nice for you then as you can customize it in the way you want it :). Depending on how well you can distribute it and the age/interrest of the users I think that promoting the offers you asked about will do very well... Let us know how it worked for you :p

Looks like a great idea. You may even start a CPA program to promote your toolbar.

Let us know how this thing will work, and good luck :)

I'm thinking about doing something similar to this. What sort of installation conversion rate have you had?
