I hear people talk about how they have a good page ranking for Google or MSN or something of the like. I also hear people talking about SEO. What do these things mean? Am I missing something that would bring more traffic to my site?
hmm... you are missing traffic from search engines... more experts will comment here i dont wana say before any expert say
They are talking about ranking on the search engines. Basically what page in the results of a search engine do you rank on for keywords searched for. Say you got a site about handbags. Where someone searches for handbags where can people find your site? SEO is the art of getting your site ranked higher so its easier for people to find through the search engines.
So how can I increase my ranking? My site is a film and television blog, (you can see it here: http://etblogdaily.blogspot.com) so I want people to see my blog on the first page if they type in Film/Television reviews. How do I go about doing this?
you need to learn abou SEO or search engine optimization if you want to rank well with a particular keyword. There lots of good tutorials out there. you can start by searching "what is seo" or "what is search engine optimization" or "how rank well in search engines"?
I don't think you need worry about PR yet. There's a quick option and a slower option for you: quick: go to seobook.com and buy 'the seobook' then read it cover to cover, or at least the first parts or as someone said above, query on 'what is seo' or similar - theres lots of other guides out there slow: check out all the different sections of this forum - SEO, link building etc its all here and spend a few days doing nothing but reading there is a lot to learn, but getting a grip on the basics shouldn't take too long getting to the top for a popular phrase, though - that's going to take longer, and much more work good luck!
