Much better option is to build your own category index be creative be unique It will set you apart as you will have a differentiator
you should be alright as long as your content is "identical" if you literally copy-paste dmoz... you could be seen as a mirror... and SE's do NOT like this. People have tried many many times to mirror sites to gain heavy search engine from quality stolen content - only to find their pr gets dropped or they get sandboxed.
Hohoho-- I like that. i am a lazy asshole too. Got one directory --ready for launch --but can't find myself working on the categories-- though I promised myself to work on that today and launch it tomorrow. Have some holidays --during following week
It's not really too much trouble, start with a foundation of categories and have a contact page. People will let you know the category they want. Thinking outside the box is good, look at Forplex for a really unique category structure which is successful.
