To all webmasters: How do you get and keep websites ranked?

As a part of an upcoming article, I will reveal some of my own strategies, but also explore what other successful internet marketers do to get and keep their websites and their clients´ websites ranked.
Share some of your experiences, strategies, experiments, successes as well as failures.
What are the biggest mistakes people make in seo?
What is the first thing you are doing when taking on a new client?
Which sources of information have helped you the most in becoming the seo that you are today?
Whatever advice you have, give it!

If you´re not quite sure how you got your sites ranked, mention some of the tactics you use to promote your sites, what you prioritize on when developing something new and mention some of your best rankings.

I wouldn't consider myself a "successful internet marketer" , so I'll share my mistakes :

1 - Developing too many sites/blogs and not keeping them updated
2 - Using free articles and content from from Directories like "Ezine Articles"
3 - Customizing my Wordpress permalinks and stopping there without doing anything else to help with seo.

its funny because I do SEO for a living yet I never get time to work on my own sites.

So one of the mistakes we make is we underestimate and don't spend enough time optimizing our sites

 

Well sad, sometimes we're so busy making sure the contracts are satisfied, that by the time we're done working, we don't even want to work on our sites ... or take on another client.

 

Add more pages. Keep the content fresh. Manually submit to blog directories.

 

I will just say this:
Differentiate Your Blog or Die

And when you did that move - you will gain natural links which is the most important thing in SEO.

 

my main concentrate is the following while optimize the sites
- Optimize for relevant traffic, it is not more important as u get 1k visitors in a day but main things is how many of them are relevant.
- Just try to provide unique and fresh information and optimize for visitors point of view.
- I concentrate on analysis part more than any other part of SEO.
- Show result to your client they will automatically impress with your work.

well a combination of both on-page and off-page factors help in do so... a continous SEO work always help in keeping your website where it is...

 

I have done this mistake in the past.

Oops.. I do this. why is this a mistake ?

 

All of my pages using free articles turned to supplemental in Google.
My entire site wasnt penalized, but the article pages are considered supplemental and are
pretty much worthless to google. I did find that some of the articles were helpful to visitors and sparked discussion which is good.

I recently started modifying those "supplemental" pages by changing keywords and deleting sentences and this appears to be working

Just keep going with SEO and maybe hire a specialist

 

Do something to help your SEO every day, whether it be posting in forums, submitting articles, etc.

 

monthly submissions to SE's and directories.
alot of text link advertising on High Pr sites using the same keywords.

 

This won't help you much.
Directories, High PR sites and the same anchor text can just push your site in a lot of filters.

Try to find hubs and authorities in your niche - they can give you the best links.

 

staying at the high position requires staying the current SEO things IMO Using old things won't keep you there.

 

Update SEO techniques as often as search engine crawl the site. And apply the techniques on the site.

 

has worked for me so far, by doing this my sites rank very good for good keywords.
that is all the seo i do and so far it works amazing so i have to disagree.
