Well, it depends. If the name is relevant to your needs and there is still some recurring traffic then it might be worth the purchase.

If you are looking for PR, Page Rank ratings do not stay static and sometimes it could drop to PR 0. Expired Domains are more or less treated as brand new domain names.

Personally I wouldn't bother unless the name is relevant for my needs.

I would think the most important thing would be to check if the domain name is banned by Google by using http://www.iwebtool.com/google_banned and also check to see if there is it is still listed there if it is not bad and see if you can view a cache copy of what the site was used before.

Important to check for is that the former user did not use it for illegal purposes including Spamming.

How exactly can it be costly if it's expired, or perhaps do you mean expirING?

When I register domains, I generally try to register only previously owned names. The old adage "all the best names have been taken years ago" is not entirely true, as names expire and sometimes you'll be amazed what you can get. The only time I get never before owned names are when I have a brandable idea in mind or it involves a new term (i.e. blog names when blogs were new). Hope this helps!

Are you talking about buying them for a site that you will develop or buying them for reselling purposes?

Do a search and see which sites the past domain linked to. If links are found on link farms, etc your site may suffer.

also checkout the past history of the domain name, subject matter, and backlinks to the site. Dont go for suspicious/or banned domain names

This has been discussed previously several times.

From my point of view it's useless if you think of pagerank or backlink terms because they will disappear if you have nothing to offer, and even then I have seen domains collapsing in the following search engine update after they were dropped.

A domain worth when you find a great name previously registered years ago. Those domains have potential to develop great things and/or higher resale prices, such as ASK.com that used to be askjeeves before such purchase.

I got one-word domain registered on 2000 dropped past year. I have no benefits from pagerank or backlinks, but I have received offers from real companies wanting that name, however I will develop it eventually so my domain has no price :)

I believe the domain name is well worth. I will try to develop the site. If I am not able to succeed on that I will try to resell it at a good price.

What are link forms? How can I know whether the domain name is on link forms?

Thanks. I am looking into it now.

banned by google is not so bad if you only want to get traffic . . . and also find a parking company that uses yahoo ads
