Hello Everyone!!! I am thinking of migrating from windows xp to ubuntu linux. I've found alternatives for the softwares which I use normally. However I would like to take linux gurus suggestions here. What problems can I encounter during the process and your precious suggestions are all welcome. Thanks in advance.
I tried migrate to linux some years ago. I had four problems: There is no good alternative for Dreamweaver in linux There is no alternative for some specific software in linux (submitters, parsers etc...) Problems with drivers for devices Problems with Russian fonts I think that you anyway will need wine or some other win emulator.
Thanks for letting me know those problems. I've found a very useful resource for ubuntu linux http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Edgy. After reading this guide and other tutorials I think that there should be no problem with installing ubuntu linux.
Good move move to linux before windows gets a hold on you.. It;s too late for me run whole you can, rrruuunnnn!!
Its always better to initially go for dual boot i.e. use linux and windows both on same PC and once you get accquinted with linux you can completely switch over to linux and remove windows I started the same way 2 years ago but still have windows on my pc to because in my profession not all softwares are available with linux so have to use windows for such softwares
I had a bit of trouble trying to get my wifi connection working, don't know if this is sorted now though as they've not long released a new version - 6.10 from memory
Ya, like most geeks I tried installing it b4 and dual booting, triple booting, I never could get everything I wanted on it. I am just so deep into windows couldnt go back
The main problems I think you'll encounter is the fact that it is Linux . Why do you want to switch from Windows....
