Hi, I was looking at putting my excellent writing skills to good use. How much should I charge for a massive 10,000 word Article, written by me on any topic. Ghost writen for the buyer and the buyer owns all rights. It will take me about 5 days. Any thoughts on what I should charge?
Well to be honest ; it's depend on the quality of work. Anyways if the quality is good charges can go upto $500 (.05 cent per word) or even more. It's just my idea . Let's see what others say on this. Regards. Ashwini
some writers charge 10 cents a word, so that's close to $1k. depends on how much research you need to do on it.
It depends quite a bit. For me to write something exclusive, only with Web rights, it would be $.50 / word ($1 / word for all exclusive rights). Others would do it for less than that, all the way down to less than a penny per word, and others would charge even more than that. If you're writing about something you're an expert in, and your writing is excellent, and there's a demand in that niche, then you can charge much higher than if you were a generalist or someone writing a niche with very little demand.
Another point to take into consideration is how good is your writing. Sometimes we believe that we can write better or worse than we really do
It depends on so many things. I'm guessing you don't already have a standard rate set since you're asking how much to charge. It's good to decide early on the amount you are going to charge whether it's per word, per page, or per project. Because of the extra work for an article of that length, I'd probably charge $650 for a 10,000 article which is a little more than my normal rate.
$200 for a 10,000 word article is ridiculous. But as everyone has said, it depends on a variety of factors. If you have excellent writing skills AND you're an expert in whatever you're writing about, you can definitely charge towards the higher end. As Jenn mentioned, you can sell your article for more money if you are an expert in your field rather than a general content writer.
While $200 for a 10,000-word article is insane for some writers, it's overpriced for others. Bottom Line: You should charge whatever will make you happy. If receiving $100 for your time pleases you, there you go. If it's $500, so be it.
I'm not denying that. I was merely stating my own personal opinion while answering the question. I just can't fathom writing that large of a project and coming away with a measly 200 bucks for it. But that's me.
Well this is another point to take into consideration. People charging an amount that makes them feel good with themselves keep that satisfaction beyond the overprice or low price pretended
The only problem with the "whatever makes you happy" idea is that many freelance writers (especially the ones who have to ask how much to charge), don't honestly know what they need. They underestimate the time involved, they overestimate the quality, or they don't grasp the fact that $200 for something taking you 10 hours to write (just choosing a random round number) is not the same as simply earning $20 / hr as an employee (because they neglect the extra taxes - depending on where you live, ignore the business expenses - small doesn't equal nonexistant, etc.). So don't think about what's going to make you happy "now," but rather what you'll need to charge continuously to earn what you need / want to earn, so you don't have to jack up your prices suddenly later when reality sets in.
If you write a 10,000 word article on one topic, what you're describing is an ebook. $500 isn't uncommon for a PLR product sold to a marketing guru or a PLR niche membership site. A marketing guru would expect a more finished product, but a PLR membership site's standards are a little lower since they want something their members can basically rewrite anyway. Of course you want your writing to be solid, with good grammar, punctuation, etc., but a niche membership's main concern is just good, factual information. If you're good at research you'll definitely find a market for your writing there. Deborah
Has someone asked you to write this article, or are you planning on doing it on spec? That is awfully long for an article. As mentioned before, it is more like an e-book. I know that I could write ten articles of 1000 words each a lot faster than I could write one 10,000 word article. The bigger the article, the more time it takes to properly structure it, and the more difficult it is to keep it consistent, not repeat yourself, and not use the same words and expressions over and over again. Consequently, I think writing has the opposite of a 'quantity discount'. The longer the piece, the more you should charge per word. Not that you necessarily can get it, but I think it should cost more. Also, when looking at pay, consider the hours you put in looking for work, keeping records, and other things. You have to include all the time you spend looking for all writing work, not just what you spent getting a particular assignment, because you are still working when you query, etc., and don't get the job. (Hey, I did learn something in accounting after all.)
Having ghost written many 1000s of articles, all not just SEO pieces, I say my charges are pretty less and start from $1 per 100 words. But you may charge whatever the buyer is ready to pay.
I had say $ 500 would be ideal. If he agrees, great! try to know what he is willing to pay coz he wont pay anything more than his budget but I guess, you must quote first because you are a writer.
