I don't use DP's Revenue Share system. I only use DP to read up about things, ask questions and share my knowledge - it's not about making money for me, plus Shawnie deserves it for all the great work that he has put into making it the best Webmasters forums out there.

Well I will hopefully be launching my own personal blog in the next 3 - 6 months so there will be loads and loads of articles there about some tips, tricks and just general good practices I use to make money off the net. So stay tuned.

On the topic of my post being long, do people think I should have shortened it down? I mean for me personally I don't think I could have gone into the same depth if I had of tried to shorten it - I mean I don't feel like I was trying to draw it out of anything and I don't think it is "too" fluffy, although there is no doubt some fluff in there.

So what do people think, because I think I will probably do up another post to place here on DP in the next month or so that will highlight a few more interesting aspects that I didn't touch on in this post.

    Hi there,

Enlightening read. Certainly no need to cut it down, the more information in there the better. Wouldn't want to miss out crucial details.

I have been steadily making about $10/day average from 2 sites for a year and only recently discovered the scope available to me if I apply a few techniques I've picked up from here and there. It would be great if you could give me some indication of the CTR such a design generates and how you begin to attract many hits(which I'm sure you do!)

Thanks again for the wonderful overview, very inspiring. Roll on the blog..

Normally, I don't like long posts. However, this is because most long posts are 40-60% fluff. Although your post was long, it was packed with information, so I think the length was necessary and acceptable in this situation. Additionally, the majority of "fluff" in your article was personal information about yourself, which I actually enjoyed reading, and I'm sure many others did also.

It varies from 10% - 30%, but this is largely dependent on a range of things largely being the quality and type of article you have and where your traffic is coming from.

As for where my traffic comes from - as mentioned in the original post - it comes largely from search engines.

OK well that is good to know - I'd hate to think I was boring people and making people skim read it. I know I personally start to skim read articles that are longish and are being written in such a way that is "fluffy".

I will probably have a mid year review I imagine - with a few of the tips I have picked up in the last 6 months - and I think I'll quite a couple of interesting things to share one how I have taken my earnings from $100/day to $200/day after about two months, and I'm really only expecting things to keep trending upwards.

Thanks - I appreciate the rep.

Hello, I realise I am not really saying anything new, but just wanted to re-iterate what a decent thread this is - I read through every post lol - took quite a while. Well done Burta, top job. I too am inspired! :)

Just wondering, I put some ads on my private forums just to try for how they would fit in case I run some for another person. As the forums are private, the CTR is really low of course, even though there is a fairly large page impression each day - should I take this channel out? Is it going to drag down the rate I get on other clicks due to it's poor performance?

    Many thanks.

Superb post. We need more like this :)

Don't mind the length at all - better to read a long informative one then "wise ass snippets" which don't say much. As you can see, there are so many replies already, I guess it wouldn't have happened if the original post was "too much" :D

Great post. Very informative and motivating. I strongly agree with the quality content sites that will make the visitor come back and/or post a link showing your site to his community.

I personally don't feel there is a great deal to the argument of removing "low" performing ad channels or trying to place them on separate accounts (if you can create separate accounts for different corporate idenefities), but then again this hasn't exactly been something that I have played with a lot, so I can't really comment.

LOL I can't really understand what you are trying to say here but I assume it's a complement and I'd just like to say thanks for the rep.

It really is the only way to take your sites to truly popular heights.
