Is an x-president or x-vise-president still to be called president?

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by debunked, Mar 21, 2007.

I was watching Gore give his "testimony" to the house and at the end the Chair said "thank you Mr.President" and any one else who said something to him said "mr.Vise-President"

Now is this normal? It seemed very wierd especially calling him "mr.president" !

Yes - protocol and good manners would say so.

    That's the norm dude.

    Always has been.

But I think Bush will be called, "Donkey". And Cheney will be called "Lord Vader".

As the above poster said, you should always refer to an x-president as president.

Once a president, forever a president (in title).

what about Gore being called President? would that also be normal?

(I would say I wouldn't feel comfortable calling him anything but Mr. Gore. and that would be respectfully, so don't add anything to it. I would say the same about any president that had served.)

    Calling Gore president? Not normal.

But once someone has earned a title, others often call them that title forever. We still refer to "President George Washington", for example.

It's similar to how we still address a retired military major or general by that title, unless asked not to, or in a position of familiarity. Heck, the title sometimes becomes a nickname for the person, because it is still an appropriate appellation.

That is true... I just got the creaps listening to the chair refer to him as President. I figured he was a nut who thought Gore actually won that election or something.

Maybe they were calling Gore Mr. President because he won the 2000 election. :p

Glances between Debunk's post and Crazy Rob's.

Your theory seems to have gained weight.

It was the decision of the illuminati who had their team of albinos shake down the election process. They also gassed the bananas and used chemtrails in Florida to keep them all confused.

Really? Despite the fact that the many desperate recounts funded by the liberal media failed to show anything but a confirmation of the Bush win?
