I found that all related threads below cannot answer my question. hi, clive, I mean from godaddy to namecheap or enom.
Thanks for the info. I would not rush doing a transfer of that kind. Unless you have a good reason for moving away from GoDaddy?
Very Simple. At GoDaddy's end, do the following :- 1) Ensure that the domain name is unlock 2) Ensure that all Whois Privacy is disabled 3) Get the EPP Code for your domain At Namecheap, do the following :- 1) Set up a free Namecheap account if you have not done so 2) Do a Transfer and type in the domain name 3) Pay for 1 year extension 4) Wait for email and follow the instructions of where to insert the EPP Code 5) Sit tight and monitor your emails, you will need to do a few confirmation and the domain name will go over. Note : Ensure that the email address is active and ensure the domain name is more than 60 days old at GoDaddy before you transfer.
ok good info, just a question. I have privacy on godaddy and namecheap offers free privacy for 1st year. So if my domain expires at May 20 and i transfer it to namecheap will it put free privacy on now or i need to wait till may 20?
If you already transferred the domain to Namecheap, the Free Privacy starts from the first day you transfer the domain, in effect, it will have a different expiry date from your domain name. You can activate it anytime you want, including now since you will have to drop the GoDaddy Privacy before transferring it.
So speaking about my domain which expires May 20th... You say that if i transfer to namecheap today i will get privacy today, but not for all time, but just for one year till March 24th only when my domain will expire may 20 ?
Yes, that is correct. Because if you transfer your domain to Namecheap today, you become a customer now and the Whois Privacy is an independent product which you can enable on any domain name you have with Namecheap. It does not necessary need to be for the one you have just moved. Namecheap Whois Protection is a lot cheaper than that of Godaddy. Namecheap charges annually $2.88 for one domain , $4.88 for 2 domains and $7.88 for 5 domains. GoDaddy charges $7.99 for one domain per year. 2 months is nothing to cry about
Ok so i will wait till may 10th with the transfer.. Ps: Namecheap gives 1 year free privacy, but for one domain only. That means 1 domain per customer or 1 domain per registration? If i buy 10 domains at a time i get free privacy only for 1 of them? What if i buy 10 domains 1 after another? Same?
1 free privacy per domain. If you transfer 10 domains, you get 10 privacy. You do not need to necessary use them for this 10 domains, you can use them for any 10 as they are not linked to your domain names. Every domain name you buy or transfer, you get 1 free privacy for the year starting from when you signed up. In fact, if you transfer them at different timing, you get the Whois Guard Privacy for those at a different timing. So if you are not going to use all the 10 Whois Guard Privacy, you can hold them and use them to extend your existing Whois Guard Privacy for your existing domains which has the Whois Guard. For example, if you initially transfer one domain on March 23 2007, you get a whois privacy which expires on March 22 2008. Then if you transfer another domain name over on Dec 25 2007, you get another whois privacy which expires on Dec 24 2008. Say if you do not want to make use of the whois privacy for the second domain name, you can use its whois privacy to extend the first domain's whois guard service by the remaining period of the unused Whois Guard subscription.
Nice, thats very good, i was confused with those 4.88$ for 2 names and 7.88$ for 5 names offers on their homepage, thought only 1 is free.. They could post in big letters something like Free private registration for all new names and transfers That way they can gain extra customers, because not im that dumb lol, couple my mates thought the same that free privacy is only for 1 domain and chose other registrars only because of that
Sorry for posting my problem in your thread...but it looks like u have some knowledge on separate domain and hosting sites. If i was to transfer my domain from a hosting site to, for example godaddy, how would i set up email addresses? Because with my hosting site i can set email addresses in the cPanal. Would i set the email addys with godaddy? eg and could i set these so i receive emails on an email client such as Thunderbird Thanks in Advance
