How to deal with a DP member acting fraudulently?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by JagoHarry, Mar 20, 2007.

  1. #1
I recently purchased some web hosting from a member on DP. However, the hosting account was suspended (for no legitimate reason as far as I can tell). I tried to contact the seller via email and PM (3 times now).

I know the DP member is active on the forum based on recent posts. However, they are not replying to my PMs.

I'm an established trader on DP. I've had a couple of problems with traders, but this is the worst. Any ideas?

I won't mention the username publically for legal reasons. Mods/admins are welcome to contact me.

    Thanks,
    Dan

Are you sure there was no legitimate reason for the cancellation of your hosting account? If yes, then try to contact the guy once more and tell him that you are going to post his name publicly if he won't respond. I think that's the easiest solution.

As far as I can tell, there's no reason why it should be suspended.

I don't do threats. However, I have said that if I don't hear from him, I'll consider his actions fraudulent and taking action accordingly.

Mods/admins don't get involved in member disputes or transactions.

Even if the person in question is selling other items/services?

I didnt know that mods didnt get involved in disputes. I think they should as it would make DP a more safer place to trade.

Considering it's DP's reputation, I would have expected they would. If DP was a haven for fraudsters, DP wouldn't last very long.

You're pretty much on your own when it comes to resolving disputes between members. Have you already submitted iTrader feedback? Have you posted a reply in the original thread mentioning the problem you're now experiencing(if there is one)?

I'd avoid posting comments in unrelated threads/sales the person currently has as this would probably be considered attacking another member and likely earn you an infraction.

Yes, Admin/Mods never get involved in any such case/problem. You are responsible for all your trades and actions yourself. So you'll have to handle it yourself now mate. If you paid him via paypal, there always is a " Charge Back " Option.

I have already submitted iTrader. Things started off well, but then nothing when there's a problem. I haven't replied in the original thread, no. Looking at their feedback, they have been upsetting traders recently though. One guy lost $100. I'm not the only one getting ripped off by this person by the looks of it.

Yup, I understand that. Not going down that route.

Chargeback doesn't work for a service. Only a product.

Well then I'd suggest to PM him saying that you will disclose his name and I'm sure he will compensate your loss.

I'll give him 24 hours. If I don't hear anything, I'll post the username here.

This isn't a court, we're not judges and there's really no way anyone could "prove" anything. Even if something could be proved there's still not anything a mod/admin could do.

There are a bunch of threads on this subject in the feedback/suggestions forum. Check em' out for previous comments & discussions.

I'm mostly concerned with stopping this person from ripping other people off. The trader had good itrader and rep, so no reason to think they'd scam me.

I found some info for traders generally that might help someone:

yes, this reputation thing is good but it is bad too :) some users give free stuff for itrader and prepare themselves for scams :) But I guess itrader exchange (like this) is prohibited now on DP.

Trader with good itrader and Rep shouldn't do such things, this really hurt other people's business. Hopefully you will get it solved soon. Best of luck

Go to the iTrader page of that member and look for your feedback. Then there's and edit option there on the left of "Report Bad Rating". There's a limited time for you to be able to do this though.
