We have all heard the phrase, but I always wondered what the hell are small sites? Can someone give an example? Does it include deep thinking? Does it take more than a few days to build? Does it take much maintenance time? How deep does it go in content? How many links/pages? I really want to build these lots of sites because they should work in my niche. I always try but I always end up going into a lot of detail and nextthing I know, I end up taking care of the site full time instead of just making it and making money. Ok. This isn't what you think. Sorry to fool you on the title .
Not sure about the getting you rich part. Small sites can be simple fansites, small web directory, flash arcade site and so on. Typicaly like what you have in your signatures. Big sites are like Yahoo, Google, Youtube and so on. These usually spans over several servers to host the site. As for the time it takes, it all depends. It can take a matter of days or weeks or months. Most standard smallish sites may use ready-made scripts so the programming aspect is handled. The only thing would be the slap on a template and content and the site is done.
Jeshil.com is using 78gb as of now for webspace, and I typically use about 1tb of bandwith a month. Small? (i know the rest are though) Well, the hope is to make small sites in "size" so it won't take much time to maintain. Crossing fingers to get high traffic, to get nice money.
You can use several targeted niche sites, and use them to market a very nice broad niched site. Say for example several small interactive sites for teens, young adults, adults. Use those to make a site similar to myspace where all these people would go together and bring alot of traffic. Then sudden rapid growth will help encourage others to visit and join your site. that was just an example I couldn't think of anything atm.
Well, that's also a fine example of not putting all your eggs in the same basket. For example, building 5 small sites can take the same time as a single big site. If only 3 or 4 of those small sites take off that's still some money. But if you only project doesn't work, something that you worked on nonstop for months, that can hurt a lot more (both the ego and the wallet).
Right now I'm looking to expand to high paying niches (well higher). I get quite a bit of traffic (descent for me, low for some), and about 150clicks/daybut the cpc is very low in my niches. I get about .04-.06 per click. Basically, I'm looking to make about 20usd a day. Right now I'm at 6.39 or something average. I've had days, like yesterdayfor example, wher eive made up to 15 but it depends. I really need this. I seriously believe I'm a quality designer and coder, but I really struggle when it comes to ideas. So I'm a good technician but not such a good businessman.
