Hey i know of a domain, that has expired, and i'd like to backorder it. But i don't see this future on namecheap? Can someone tell me how to? Thanks!
Do you have a godaddy account? They are free if you don't. You type in the domain name like you want to buy it. It comes back not available and ask you if you would like to back order it. The cost is 18.95 and that is good until you score a domain. There are no refunds. You can change the one you have on back order at any time. If more than one person back orders the same name you may get a chance to bid on it. Usually it is 75-80 days from the initial expire date before they drop. Once you backorder one do NOT keeping searching it. You will just call attention to it. As far as I know there is no direct path to backorder at GD maybe you can do it where you have your account.
so if the domain name only expired today, i can't order it? And there must be more then 1 bidder so i can order it, otherwise it's not availeble? That's stupid ... Thanks for reply man!
No you can and should BO it if you want it. There is a redemption period of 30 days where the current owner can redeem it. Then it is pending delete for another 30 and I think the current owner can still get it back then with a big penalty. What happens is a lot of people authorize a drop once it expires. That shortens the process but like I said the normal time to actually be able to buy it 70-80 days from the expire date. If you are the only one you get it when it drops.
so do you pay the 18.95 up front or do you only get charged once you actually get the domain? also, are you saying that if you backorder a domain, you can still lose it to someone else who tries to backorder it, even if they backorder it after you do? just wondering because i have a domain ive got my eye on that expires soon, and the current owner isnt using it for anything so id think that there's a good chance it will be left to expire.
You pay upfront. I imagine that is the same everywhere. You are placing an order with one registar. Others may be placing an order somewhere else. When the name drops the first registar to place the order gets the domain.
