When looking to promote a site, there are a number of great traffic sources from a social networking / social bookmarking perspective - sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, Netscape, BlinkList, and StumbleUpon come to mind immediately. What are the list of sites that you use for promotion? There's CoRank, Newsvine, Reddit, Spotback, Spotplex, OpenServing, ClipMarks, and all the Pligg clone sites out there. Then there's all the social networking sites that hitwise mentions in their top 10 list. I'm sure there's a more extensive list out there.

anyone know for certain if posting links in these is really valuable for SEO? Seems to me it's an obvious black hat technique and that Googe et al would be on top of it and downplay the significance of the links. I'd like to know before I go and open up 100 personal networking accounts.
Thanks for the info. I used social bookmarking as the way to increased web traffic for the site such as digg.com, del.icio.us, blinklist, technorati, reedit, adoppt.and a lot more
Great responses all around. I don't know about using these things to link your own sites repeatedly over and over, but they are important to know about. I was thinking more from a traffic generation standpoint than an inbound link generation standpoint. I imagine the inbound links these sites generate, if they generate them at all, are of minimal quality in the first place. It's not always about gaming google .
Thanks fore the info.I really find it useful. My opinion is to use only top 10 social bookmarking sites. Think they will give you enough traffic.
I think it depends which ones to choose. It depends on what kind of site you have. I have forex related site and in technorati I don't have business news. So first find relative sites and after that post your stories to them.
How do you know if putting your link on a social site would be a good thing? I mean in terms of improving/damaging your PR rating? Is there a way to know?
It's good because of visibility. If you bookmark it, it will show up within the social bookmarking's search as well as your profile on the bookmarking site. So if the site passes PR, there's a free link. As for social networking, or social voting it gets views which in return give the possibility of links. If your website gets to the homepage of Digg, not only is that 10,000 eyes you wouldn't have otherwise, that is probably 100 deep links you wouldn't have otherwise.
