NEW DELHI: With her baby on her lap, Maya Sharma (name changed) gets down to work every evening from her eighth-floor flat at Vasant Vihar. Maya’s job is to click on online advertisements. She doesn’t care about the ads, but diligently keeps count – it’s $0.18 to $0.25 per click. /photo.cms?msid=1789035 "It's boring, but it is extra money for a couple of hours of clicking weblinks every day,†says a resident of Delhi's Patparganj, who has kept a $300-target for the summer. Traffic to click overseas Internet ads - from home loans to insurance - is spreading fast in India. “I have no interest in what appears when clicking an ad. I care only whether to pause 60 seconds or 90 seconds, as money is credited if you stay online for a fixed time," says another user. Here's how it works: online advertisers in developed markets agree to pay hosting website each time an ad is clicked. With performance-based deals becoming dominant on the Internet, intermediaries have sprung up to "do the needful".' Why, type in 'earn rupees clicking ads' in Google — you get 25,000 results. "I'm not surprised. As competition intensifies, people are using every trick to increase their revenues," says Sam Balsara, CMD, Madison. The trend is catching up in India. Says Goutam Rakshit, chairman, Advertising Council of India: "It's a numbers game as far as media buying is concerned. And anybody who can manipulate numbers gets the edge. This is unethical, and needs to be curbed." Take Click2freemoney.com. Calling itself an Internet advertising company that shares profits with members, it gives three options to earn money — by clicking on website links via e-mails that they send, by clicking on banners and text ads in their paid-to-click section, and by referring others to the website. No wonder Internet ad firms have been floated in neighbourhood colonies, promising to share "secrets" to earning in dollars by clicking online ads for an upfront fee of Rs 250 to Rs 1,500. Typically, online ad clickers get their money remitted by opening accounts through PayPal or StormPay — which enables money transaction if you have an e-mail address. Most clickers, however, opt to pay commission to middle men and encash earnings in rupees. Clickers say they pay $7 commission for every $50 earned. Clicks are bought to boost number of hits for web ads or online advertisers who are not tracking user location. Rakshit says new tech solutions are being developed to bring in some sort of accountability. "It is going to be a cat-and-mouse game," he says. Industry, as a whole, is confident that this is an interim trend that will fizzle out in the long run. But for the moment, there are countless Maya Sharmas clicking away. When i first read this article... i was like wow... and i just started a thread in google section to report other sites... I think its really hard for some advertisers that spend so much money and with all the invaild clicks that happends... hundreds if not thousands.. wasted. They dont get a sale out of it.. doesnt really get there site now out there either... google has to step up.
this is not as big of a problem as people make it to be. market will take care of itself as the conversion rate drops so will what advertisers are willing to pay. it is just a matter of a couple of months.
it will not take off it self there is always new people that does not know about this problem. I had the same problem with Pakistan and when i blocked them it went much better maybe time to block india as well.
I think someone is paying them to do this one there ads.. It doesnt explain to much in detail.. but probably for good reason.
Yea definitely ban india, put a friggin GEO IP BAN! ok then its off to the tables to make a script to ban india using geo ip! lol
Jusr curious how does the firm which employs these clickers know how much who made?? Doesnt sound feasible to keep a track of that. Secondly if the clicks are originating from a single source every day - that account will definitely be banned. We are speaking about banning India from adwords not developing a script for that mate
Uhuh, so you keep "talking about it", good luck with that, no really. Ill go actually "do something" about it, not too sure about it but there might be a difference in talking about it and doing something about it
I'm paranoid and dont care for people doing such stuff, ill ban them off all my servers for all i care, heh. plus i dont think indian traffic would be any good to anyone anyway.lol
Guys it's like a 3 year old news discussed and re-discussed in several arenas. The reporter as obvious has no idea what he/she is talking about and also please be relaxed this has nothing to do with adwords. Adword Click Tracking Algorithms are stronger than you can think of. And one IP clicking ads several times a day is not digestible to Google! These paid to click networks are private ad networks that fall in the same category as HYIPs, AutoSurfs etc. Wherein Companies charge you some amount to show their users your page for maybe 10 sec after they click on them. No I am not taking the side of these Scammy Idiots, it's just that am clearing things to people before they go ahead and ban India, thereby losing a lot of traffic! Cheers
Ok i think ive made a huge email explaining adsense why my ban was false. Made the following points - Traffic stats showing indian traffic - click rates for the months before and traffic from then - link to this thread and the article up there hopefully they will give me my account back Edit: And to all indian dp members, calm down already, im against those ppl in the article up there and the growing "trend" as it seems in india not you guys, the most i want from you is to at least be against this sort of crap!
Ban Ban Ban Indians start to do to mutch fish stuff (and in my opinion they ruine the market of advertising/freelancing / mfas etc etc )
I have seen him multiple times trying to diss indians. Whats with you, you are so bigoted. Indians ruining the market, yeah right!. What do you mean , Indians ruining freelancing, Oh now I remember, you twice, sent me bids (in GAF) for one way links that were just directory submission, try offering something different. MFA is a gray area, you mean to say, you never created a site for adsense.
