If I am having a programmer build me an expensive script, what forms should I have him fill out to ensure that I own the script and that he cannot sell to anyone else?

    Thanks

Not a lawyer here but the basics are that this project is a "work for hire" and as such any and all copyright is assiged to you upon final payment for the work.

Then you follow that up by making him sign for his final payment. Something to the effect that he has received check number xxxx and once that check has been properly paid he releases all copyright that he might own to you in accordence with the initial employeement contract.

In the course of my primary business I have signed many releases for final payment on contracting jobs. Most lenders will not issue a mortgage unless proof is provided that the subs have been paid.

The first is the most important but the second is your proof that you "paid in full" as there might always be cost over runs and additions on any job.
