I plan to registar some new domains and I have read some bad things about godaddy and I was woundering what you all think of namecheap? would you trust them with your domains? I'm also open to other registrars but namecheap seems like a well known company from what i see.
Yes Yes and Yes! I have moved all my domain names and consolidated them at Namecheap and loving it. They are easy to use and do not have that much complication in getting a domain name as in GoDaddy. However, if you register long term, I understand that the Godaddy prices are better as the longer you register, the cheaper it gets. With Namecheap, the price are fixed generally at $8.88 no matter how long you register the names for.
Are you asking if Namecheap only does Domain Name registration as their exclusive business ? If so then Yes, they are. They are probably one of the biggest eNom reseller.
thanks for the info guys. the thing i read most recently that scared me about godaddy was this: http://domainnamewire.com/2007/02/27/godaddy-deletes-domain-name-for-inaccurate-email-address/ I have heard that they are known for even taking domains for them selfs but im not sure if thats true or not.
Namecheap is the best. my all domain have registred there, and had no problem so far. so ya you can goahead with namecheap. good luck buddy
Why get scared? You should be reading the most important line on that page: Keep your Domain Registration Info Updated!
Actually the thing about keeping your info updated does not just apply to GoDaddy. It applies to all domain name registrar and anyone you deal with online. Well, I do not deny with that. Namecheap is a eNom reseller much like what Registerfly was. However, at the time being, Namecheap is still pretty reliable. I guess as domain name owners, we should always be on our toes and when something goes amiss, get hold of your EPP codes and be prepared to move. Anything can happen to any company.
Too true! Does the EPP code have an expiry date set at the time you request it or is it unique and once you have it, you can use it any time you want? The reason for this question is trying to figure out if requesting an EPP code and storing it away from the online control panel is good in the unfortunate event that the registrar repeats RegisterFly where these codes are almost impossible to get these days from what I have read. For that simple reason that there is a common point between Namecheap and RF I'd keep away from it. It's a reseller, and on the day it goes wrong, if that happens all of a sudden before you manage to figure out you have to transfer your names away, what do you do then... Is eNom doing anything about RegisterFly customers?
I am not sure about EPP Expiry date but I doubt there is. I've transferred domain names when the EPP comes into effect and there was no mentioned that they will expire. I recall at one of the registrar, EPP codes can be changed by the user but I guess in the end, Domain Name registrar just needs to support EPP code and expiring them would probably be too time consuming and difficult to track for them. In the end, I guess you could store all your EPP codes right now, go back to them after 6 months and see if they are the same. Since they are text, a simple copy and paste would suffice. About RegisterFly, probably about 4 years ago, I've heard of them and even at that point, it already seems shaking. So I never did use them. I believe recently, eNom did contact send out an email circular to RegisterFly customers to have their account moved to eNom. Some people probably ignore that and got stuck or something somewhere in the whole chain of events, things got messed up. I supposed if you are like me and register the valuable domain names for 10 years, you will not have much to worry about. I guess I should keep a registry of all my EPP codes too.
With a bit of research, I found out they are even closer one to the other. RegisterFly Namecheap Isn't that a scarey coincidence?
lol you guys are starting to scare me from buying domains from namecheap now does anyone else here have some good or bad news about godaddy that they could share with me? I'm just trying to figure out the best place to buy my new domains from.
I guess it is just a coincidence. Maybe that was the time in which eNom started offering reseller's accounts. I am not familiar with the history but eNom did buy over BulkRegister in 2000 and probably that may be when they started offering resellers account to expand their business.
I am personally planning my next bulk .info purchase at MyDomain.com although most of my domains are at GoDaddy. Why? The answer is here.
