round and round it goes, where it stops nobody knows......

Next thread -- "God tells you to beat your kids to death" and stay tuned for "God wants human sacrifice" also brought to you by our sponsers "God told all Christians to kill sinners"

George, I wasn't saying that the verse isn't in the Bible, I was saying you probably got it off a site to begin with. Or are you actually reading the Bible?

Bruji was copying from sites whole descriptions of what an imam interpreted into the Bible it was quite laughable but scary at the same time - he was saying that the parents checked their daughter for her virginity on her wedding day or something like that and how it was a Jewish law.

That is true. Still not a word about the actual text or even trying to discuss it. Next you will probably try the translation card and how it should be interpreted with customs and traditions of that time.
It seems d16boy already is trying that by claiming that there is some kind of expiry dates on God's word but failed to tell us how many years is it. :D

i see it also says this:

    1 Corinthians 14:33-35

For God is not a God of disorder but of peace.
As in all the congregations of the saints, wo[men] should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submissi[on], as [the] Law says. 35If they want to [in]quire abou[t] som[e]thing, they should ask thei[r] own husba[n]ds at hom[e]; for i[t] is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

God is not a God of disorder but of peace. As men should remain silent They are not allowed to speak on the internet.

now STFU it says so in that very verse:D

Here goes the Gworld "I didn't read 90% of your post"

Yes, there are different cultures in different cities and countries mentioned throughout the Bible. There is also the laws given to the Hebrew people during a time that they were moved from country to country.
(But, you already know and have ignored this fact and will continue to do so because it would steal your thunder of Christian bashing.)

Gworld are you ever going to explain how John and Luke are antisemitic? Or how God demands human sacrifice? I think you should teach all the Christians all the things you know.

The bible and Christianity were developed in a time when there weren't police or laws to govern the world. They are nothing more than out dated population control. I find it troubling that people still look to it for answers or guidance.

no-one is saying that it is not valid, the bible or quran, what i think people are saying is this,

keep your god to your heart and trust in his love, but 2000 years have past, so remember that we as humans also have our own thoughts and are responsible for our own actions, and if we choose to treat others with dignity then god should be pleased. if we have the mindset in times long gone, would god look upon you and be pleased? i think he would say, "what a waste of the power of reasoning and thought i gave them"

    (this from a none believer)

i say, "what fucking idiots you are"

thank you, i do have them now and again, but i would sooner allow people to prove 100% how stupid their reasoning is, before i try and get them to see the light.

wisdom might have been written 2000 years ago, but who said wisdom cant be written today?

if we just talked about our power of reason and thought, i think we would have something to agree on.

Notice God didn't say the crass STFU? He is correcting some outrageous church behavior going on in Corinth (along with many other major problems). Correction/reproof is supposed to be redemptive in nature not some silly offensive comment to women.

There were lots of abuses in Corinth and one thing that God wants during "church" is order. If you read that whole chapter, you'll understand the purpose of church worship is to build-up (edify) those that attend. The Corinthians were in complete disorder with lots of talking (wives to husbands) and lots of self-ish spiritual utterances ("speaking in tongues") without any interpretation and typically at the same time! Paul is trying to correct a free-for-all.

As for male/female roles, it's clear that God intended man to represent one thing and woman another. He did this in the created order (man first) and by requiring that man be the spiritual leader in the church and home. Don't like it, bring it up with God. :)

Lots of ink is spilled over this kind of stuff but when you understand that mankind (male/female) is sinful and needs redemption, all are equal in the need of grace. When it comes to human relations, God has an order He wishes to be followed and man is given the leadership role.

If you read further in Ephesians 5:21 - 28, you'll see that the role relationship between husband/wife (man/woman), is that of Christ and the church. It's honoring to God when this order is maintained.

Lots to say, but have to get back to work...

so to love God and to love others sums up what Jesus preached.

Loving others sure confuses people today. Like those who think disciplining a child is Not love or those who think they are loving someone by not telling them what they are doing is hurting themselves or someone else ie. drug and alcohol abuse.

Loving a spouse also can mean giving up some of your own desires to please them and if your spouse does the same thing you both end up happy.
